This Family is so named because of a legend that the Monks tell of.
They say that, many years ago, a mated pair of elks wandered into the Silva Forest. These elks were pure white, for camouflage in the Great Arkene Blizzards.
They wandered to the western fringes, where some hunters still live. It was there that the male elk, named Snow Gold, was caught in the chains that the hunters had hung above their camp.
A very strong Forest Spirit is believed to still live in the Forest, from when the world was young. This Spirit heard their cries of distress and came to their aid. He said that he would free Snow Gold, if his mate gave her life in return.
His mate quickly agreed.
The Spirit freed Snow Gold and took his mate. Anguished, he thrashed his head around, catching the chains, until he heard footsteps.
Her ran to the northernmost reaches of the world, where he wandered, the cold iron chains wearing away into thin, golden ornaments.
And that is how the Elk got it's Chains.
