I, like many others, have a tab with creatures new users may choose from. The Newbie Corner tab will always have at least one member of this family in it, so be sure to keep an eye out for any creature with 'Welcome to MS' after its name (or after 'unnamed' if it hasn't been named yet). The people here are friendly and welcoming, so take a look around and enjoy.
