Rust is a term mostly used to describe oxidized iron, so, for the most part, rust is reddish brown. Since Lycoris is a genus is flowering plants, Rusted Lycoris is a twisted way of saying "dead plant". Why? Give enough time, oxygen, and water, anything made of iron will turn into that brownish rust. Give enough time, plants will eventually die of one cause or another and turn brown. Over time, plants will die, and iron will rust. In a less twisted view, Rusted Lycoris originates from the fact that Crystalwings is described to exist centuries ago in the Magi universe. Plus, it is one of the first creatures on the site. The name reflects the age of the species.
