Cold cousins of the Scartender family, the Snowscars befell a terrible tragedy which pulled them into the Dark v. Light Gryphon War. When an illness spread through their community, the Ice Phoenixes turned to the great healer of the nearby Darkclaw pack. Though reluctant to help at first, the medic of the Gryphons used an ancient magic to heal the sick. However, this magic bound the Phoenixes eternally to the Darkclaws, making them allies no matter the preference of either side. They did not get along poorly at all, but this act of magic forced the ice and fire cousins against each other. Though not all of the Phoenixes chose to stay with the Darkclaws, the magical curse upon them forces even the most loathsome bird to assist a Darkclaw who needs help. Unknown to many, though, the same is true to the Gryphons.
