Re: DarrkestDrow's Awesomely Named Art Thread
(I should have reserved more posts. Putting this here, as it is large and it needs its own post.)
This was something I did for people who gifted me one year. I never put it up anywhere but I don't want to lose it either, so here it will hide.
- - - - - - - The Secret of the Sweet Tooth - - - - - - -
So, it's cold and snowy outside, and it's got you thinking about Witches and rather their various parts actually are this cold or not. Before the intrigue of this great mystery grips you too fully, something peculiar catches your eye. What was that? There is something rustling about in the hedges. It's small, black, and furry, probably a Black Holly Jackalope. You had seen many of the other students with them at this time of year. Odd that it was out here on its own though and not surrounded by a bunch of overly happy people infected with the "Holiday Spirit."
The creature darted from one hedge to another, seeming as if it were coming directly to you. Something seemed off about it though. You hadn't gotten a clear look at it yet but something seemed different about it.
As you cautiously approach where you last saw the creature, you reach into your pocket for a bit of peppermint. You have tons of the stuff, maybe the Jackalope would like it as well. As you near the hedge, candy in hand, you crouch down and hold the treat out, sure the creature would smell it. Before you even get the chance to beckon to the creature it leaps out of the hedge and snaps up the peppermint, nearly taking your finger with it. You let out a startled yelp and end up flat on your arse in the cold snow. Watching the creature as it hungrily devours the peppermint, you get a sick feeling in your stomach. It wasn't a Black Holly Jackalope, but it was a Black Rabbit of sorts... It's fur is unkempt, shaggy with matted clumps of hair hanging from it. It looks emaciated and malnourished but doesn't move or act like it's weak or unhealthy. It looks at you expectantly, it's tattered ears pricked forward and blue eyes glowing intensely. It snaps it's rodent-like teeth together, causing you to jump. Saliva and bits of peppermint dribble from its mouth as it moves in closer.
As you hurriedly fumble through your pockets for another peppermint you notice that the creature is actually fitted with some sort of harness. There is a parchment attached to the harness. You find another peppermint and quickly toss it to the creature. You can see writing on the parchment. Is that your name? You carefully reach forward and remove the letter from the harness and rise to your feet. It is indeed your name. You unfold the letter and read its contents. It looks as though it might be coordinates. Odd. You do happen to have your compass though...
An hour or so later...
It's a good thing you had no plans this day, as the coordinates ended up leading you out further than you had expected. You ended up at a small brook. The area wasn't overgrown like you might have expected, all the vegetation was trimmed back and the rocks were stripped bare of all moss. You soon discovered why when you spotted a Mohrior, probably the same one as before but now looking like a goat. It was munching away at the vegetation, ignoring you completely. Atop one of the larger rocks that pocked this area sat another parchment and what looked like an old picnic basket. Suddenly nervous you glance around, looking to see if anyone else was here. But there is no one else around.
You move to the rock and read the letter. It is a poorly written thank you note from that cranky Magi you had gifted during the Holidays. You knew that one to be a bit of a hermit but even this seemed excessive. The letter ended with "Enjoy" and had a crude drawing of a devil horned smiley face. You put the paper aside and cautiously open the basket, a little confused by what you see. There is an assortment of odd treats...
A red apple and a green apple. At first you think they have been coated in caramel but you soon realize they are actually oozing caramel. It's messy and a bit unpleasant, so you continue looking.
You find what appears to be some leftover Halloween candy. Strange indeed. Does that stuff ever go bad, you wonder? You see candy crumbs all inside the basket and even see a few with holes in them and decide that yes, the candy does indeed go bad at some point and this has likely reached that point. Ew. You look some more and find...
A pretzel! It seems harmless enough you decide as you look it over. Prehaps you were a bit too quick to judge though, as seconds later you quickly throw the thing down, sure you had just felt it move in your hand.
There is one other item in the basket though and it's in a smaller container. Unsure if you want to look, you very slowly open the container.
Your eyes sparkle as you look over the magnificent treat. It was a sugarholic's dream! Chocolate chip cookies with sweet cream sandwiched between them, smothered in chocolate syrup and topped with waffle cone and a strawberry. As if that wasn't enough, there was a cushion of spun sugar alongside it. You are quite sure that all your teeth would fall out and you'd be put in a sugar coma for days if you ate all that at once. Plus you were supposed to be a diet too.
You look all the items over and wonder how many you should choose or if you should just take them all. Part of you thinks you should just leave them, the cranky Magi probably wouldn't even know since the Mohrior would likely consume anything you left behind. What to do, what to do?
Apple
The apple continues oozing caramel for days. You were beginning to wonder why you even brought it home as it certainly didn’t seem very appealing to eat. Cleaning the mess of caramel up is becoming such a chore that you consider throwing the apple out, or giving it away, or maybe even selling it. Surely there is more to it though. Is it really just a magically imbued apple? What would happen if you ate it? With a sigh you clean the sticky mess up one last time before heading to bed. You’ll decide what to do with it tomorrow.
When you wake up the next day, you are quick to get out of bed and seek out your warmest robes. The fire has gone out and the place is freezing. As you cross the room you let out a gasp as your foot steps into something cold and sticky. It feels quite gross, but you’ve cleaned up enough caramel lately that you’re pretty sure you know what it is. At least, you hope it’s caramel… You head to the bathroom, stepping with your heel so as not to spread the mess around. After cleaning up you head to the kitchen to find the apple. Not surprisingly, it is gone. There is nothing but a large pile of cold and hardened caramel in its place. There is a rather obvious trail of caramel, which you are quick to follow. It leads in a meandering path around the kitchen, through the living area, and back to your bedchambers. It seems to be leading toward the fireplace.
Once you reach the dark, unlit hearth, you find a large puddle of caramel. Curled up rather pathetically in the middle is a small Alphyn hatchling. It’s not moving and you set about tending to it quickly. It’s gotten cold, and just like the caramel, it’s little body has cooled and firmed. You wonder if it is even alive.
You hastily start a fire and stoke the flames until it is burning brightly, keeping an eye on the hatchling as you work. Sure enough, as the caramel heats up and softens you begin to see the small alphyn squirm about. As it warms, it perks up, becoming more and more alert. It’s long tail flips around in a lazy wag, slinging droplets of caramel all around it. You notice the caramel slowly dripping from the creature and you let out a disgruntled sigh. Just like the apple, the creature is constantly oozing caramel. What are you supposed to do now!? Now you’ve got a mobile mess to clean up after! You look down as you feel something touch your hand. The little alphyn nuzzles you, then looks up at you happily. It seems blissfully unaware of the sticky mess coming from it. It just wants attention…your attention. How could you get rid of it now?
As the days pass and your sticky mess of a creature wrecks havoc to your life, you are quite certain this creature must have been some sort of experiment gone wrong. You are starting to regret ever giving anything to that Magi recluse that got you into this whole mess. You even consider bringing the creature to Master Belmos, though he’s probably already aware of the situation.
Though you’re busy as ever now, cleaning up after the creature, the Alphyn itself seems very content. You’ve learned that cooling the creature is a good way to slow it down, or even send it into a dormant state. In the Summer it is fond of being out in the sun, as the heat keeps it more mobile. Unfortunately this means it’s much more messy as well. Bugs and other debris is constantly getting stuck in the creatures seeping caramel, but other creatures have leaned that the caramel alphyn is just the creature to go to for a sweet treat. Other Alphyns have been seen grooming it, and you’re sure during Autumn when the Xocomels return they will be all over the thing. Still though, the creature is really more of a burden than a gift…which was probably why it was “gifted” to you. You don’t know if you will keep it or not, but one thing is for sure, the cranky magi recluse who gave you this will be getting nothing but coal next year.
Candy Corn
As soon as you get home you decide the first thing you should do is dispose of the candy corn. You are fairly sure you heard something scratching around in the basket and you can’t get your mind off the site of the crumbled up candies…especially the ones with the holes in them. Something had to have eaten them, and you were beginning to worry that the “something” was in the basket now.
When you get home you set the basket down, still hearing the scratching sounds. You remove one of your shoes and keep it in your hand…just in case. As you slowly open up the basket several of the candy corns come tumbling out. You reel back, ready to bring the show down. Your curiosity gets the better of you though and you hesitate. The candy isn’t exactly trying to hurt you anyway. As you watch though, a teeny tiny set of legs emerge from one of the pieces of candy, followed by a set of eyes peeking out at you. You watch as the smallest little hermit crabs you’ve ever seen carefully peek out from the candy corn and slowly crawl around.
With a sigh of relief, you drop the shoe and continue to watch the creatures. You decide to keep them around and study them further, curious to discover just how alike, or different, they are from the Viridis Crabs. Well, at least you now have something to do with all that leftover candy corn from Halloween.
Pretzel
Why haven’t you eaten this thing yet? It looks tasty enough. Surely it isn’t actually moving, your mind must be playing games with you. Yet you just can’t bring yourself to eat it. For the most part you leave it alone. You do find yourself compelled to check on it from time to time though. It must be stale by now, yet it still looks fresh…and tasty.
You’ve resisted eating the large pretzel for longer than you thought possible and you’re secretly proud of yourself. You stopped checking on it several days back, finally satisfied that it really was nothing more than a pretzel. Determined to put an end to this silliness, you decide it’s time to dispose of the old pretzel. With little care you reach up to grab it and are surprised to find that it is soft and warm to the touch. You feel it wriggle in your grasp, but this time you don’t let it go. You hear a strange hiss of protest and right before your eyes the pretzel uncoils and stares back at you. Slender wings unfold and give you a light slap as the pretzel flys across the kitchen to a more comfortable perch. You stare in awe and bewilderment at what just happened. It really wasn’t a pretzel after all…
The Quetzalcoatl gets bigger and bigger as the days pass by. It is friendly and seems to have grown attached to you. The only drawbacks of the creature are the salt. It sheds a hefty amount of salt, and every time you pet it your hands feel dried out and scratchy and your eyes burn. You’re not sure how the reclusive magi came to own such an odd beast, but you’ve grown to like the strange creature and have dubbed it as a Pretzalcoatl.
Sweet Treat
Once you get home with the tasty treat you try to behave yourself and not eat any of it. You set it on the counter and leave it alone, only to return to it and remove it from the container. It looks so delicious, you just want to take a little nibble of it. A knock on your door pulls you from the kitchen, and you get pulled into a lengthy conversation with a female friend about rather Thane would look better with or without his goatee. You don’t even care, yet the girl manages to pull you into the conversation…which soon turns into a debate.
Later, after getting rid of your friend, you close and lock the door feeling secretly victorious that you managed to get out of inviting her inside. You knew she’d want some of that scrumptious treat that was waiting for you in the kitchen, and it would be rude of you not to share. Psh! To hell with manners. No sir, this was YOUR treat, and it was all for YOU…and no one else.
You pause when you get back to the kitchen and your sweet treat is gone. Feeling a flash of anger and disappointment you look all around. Where was your sweet treat!? But then you spot it on the side table near some books. Strange, you could have sworn you placed it on the counter. With a shrug you move it back to the counter. That was weird…it seemed larger…heavier. Oh well, that just meant more to eat. Feeling slightly giddy, you turn to fetch a fork from the drawer. You turn back, fork in hand and ready to take a bite, only to see…and empty plate!? The treat is gone again!? Where? You spot it a few feet away, smears of chocolate and crumbs on the countertop all around it. You swear you hear a quiet giggle.
Your eyes narrowed suspiciously, you approach the sweet treat, fork held at the ready to stab. You let out a hungry growl and bring the fork down, only to see the sweet treat leap away from you! No! Your delicious dessert!
The sweet treat dodges another swipe from your fork, hopping about deftly, dodging your awesome fork wielding skills. As you let out a frustrated yell and throw your fork at the dessert, it quickly dodges it and spins about, unfurling itself and sending crumbs, and chocolate drips everywhere. As it unfurls it takes on the form of something that resembles a cat. It looks as if it is grinning at you, amused by this whole little game.
Unsure what has come over you, you throw yourself at the drawer of silver ware, digging through it frantically. You come out with a SPORK. You WILL have your dessert!
The dessert Cat narrows its eyes and hisses at you, sensing the danger. It was all fun and games before, but now you wield the ultimate weapon against such a creature. It has no defenses against a spork, nothing can beat a spork…nothing.
Sensing its fear you laugh maniacally and chase the Dessert through the house. When it jumps atop the sill of an open window you slide to a stop, a feeling of panic overcoming you.
The Cat grins at you one last time and then leaps out the window.
You let out a pained, “Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!” and drop to you knees, in utter devastation.
It takes you several minutes to recover and get your senses about you. What had just happened? That wasn’t like you at all. The greediness, the insatiable hunger, the primal NEED to feed on that thing. It must have been some sort of magic from the Cat thing. It had to have been…surely you weren’t that desperate for something sweet to eat. With a sigh you return to the kitchen, unable to shake the extreme sweet tooth the cat seems to have left you with. You wish it hadn’t gotten away.
As you rummage through the pantry, looking for a sugary treat to eat you can’t stop thinking about the dessert cat. You decide to carry a spork with you tomorrow…maybe even the next day, and the day after that as well. You never know when you may come across the dessert cat again, and next time, it wasn’t going to get away.

Were it ONE picture in question here, that would be a great guess.GypsyRaven wrote:Its a Tevera Enox
Heeeeey, it's like the snake charmer in my profile! (I'm sure there's a dirty joke there, but since this is a children's site...*shuts up*) I still can't decide if it's an epic ass-lashing or true love...but since it was both MALES we BOTH posted I'd say it's............... love
I'm wondering if I should post tiny WIPs here or not. I dunno...mine are so damned messy I'm thinking maybe not (unless I'm in need of help...which I kind of am but don't want to spoil the surprise, even though the person it's for might not even be watching this thread). Hum!
Re: DarrkestDrow's Awesomely Named Art Thread
I'm glad I found this post because I keep meaning to tell you that I adore your art and insert all kinds of drooling and luffs here.

Sloppy coloring because I was in a hurry.
I'll add this to the front post in a bit, I'm in a rush now. Later!

You got her perfectly, no inaccuracy whatsoever.
*dies repeatedly from the sheer beauty of this gift*
Thank you.
I mean that so much. If I ever met you, you would be tackled with hugs. I mean, I would probably tackle you to the ground out of sheer joy.
Thank you so so so so so much.
