A unique creature can be something you have made up, or a mythical animal.

From the rules:

2. ALL CONTENT MUST BE ORIGINAL TO YOU. This includes all descriptions and art. Creatures do not need to be your unique creation [i.e. mythical creatures, extinct animals, living animals etc. are acceptable submissions], but all content including the written description/concept art must be created by you.

So a raven is perfectly acceptable so long as the description is unique.

Of course, I've already got a creature named Poe...

Ya, but it's not a made up creature! So I think that it's disqualified!

Actually, it's not a bad idea. But my point is, we can enter real creatures, so long as we disclaim anything that's, well, not ours (obviously) and make up our own kinda personalities for them. See my entry for an example if you like. I did a real animal too.
