Frost Thief - A Keep Story - Chapter 6: A Killer's Weakness

OHH LOOKIE I GOT OFF OF MY LAZY BUTT!

My eyes fly open, but not to the sound of the overly annoying bell. Groaning, I gently push Chime off of my face and glance at the clock; 6:34.
Great.
I shove the comforter and the sheets off of me and get dressed. I have to see what I saw last night. Tip toeing through the mansion, I finally make it outside. Chime leads me to the tree that I had climbed just last night, though I stop and look at the stables. Everything seemed fine, though my heart felt a little emptiness. Was it Gomery?
No, it couldn't be. I decide to ignore it and race up the tree.
Well, I tried racing up the tree. It took a little while to get to the top, especially since Chime was mocking me the whole time. I narrow my eyes and grab the next branch. Pulling myself up, I gasp.
The view here was beautiful! I could see everything; the stables, the gut-wrenching cave, the aquarium, everything! A puvia squawks at me from behind. I squeak and almost fall out of the tree.
"Goodness," I whisper to myself. My eyes are led to the marshes and swamps.
And there it is. Emerging out of the water. I can't take my eyes off of it.
It was beautiful. It had dark blue fur and a brown mane. Trailing my eyes to it's back, I see what had glinted the night before. Upon it's back was a trail of glowing blue marks.
Could it be a kelpie?
I squint my eyes to get a better look, but it doesn't help. I make my way out of the tree and it's twisting branches, but still keeping my eye on it. Once I made it safely to the ground, I signal Chime to stay put. Inching my way closer to the marsh, I'm careful not to scare it away. My heart stopped as it whipped it's head around to look at me. And just like that, it stared at me, luring me closer to it. I couldn't stop. When we were finally face to face, I reach my hand out to touch it.
HISS
A hand with sharp nails came out of the water and grabbing my arm. I scream and shrieked and finally got out of it's grasp. I run and I run and I run. I just had to get away from there.
"I'm going to get into so much trouble," I mutter to myself in between breaths.
"That you are, that you are."
My eyes widen and I turn around to see Chokichi and Nevaeh staring at me with their arms crossed.

"So."
I gulped. What was I going to say? That woke up so I went outside and almost died from temptation?
"What exactly were you doing so early in the morning? I came to get you out of bed and you weren't there, and so now I see that you're trying to tame a kelpie, is that not true?" Chockichi spat.
"Exactly what I'd like to know," Nevaeh added in. I smiled sheepishly.
"Erm... I went on a little walk...?"
"Walk of death, to be more clear. You could've died, Thelema," Chockichi replied.
"You need to be way more careful. With their luring looks and charming appearances, kelpies are very dangerous. I can't stress enough how much trouble you could've been in." Nevaeh says. I sigh and and look down at my feet.
"There wasn't just the kelpie, though! A hand grabbed me, too!" I blurt out. Both Chockichi and Nevaeh looks at me like I'm a ghost.
"What? What?!" I demand, my hands on my hips.
"I have to go," Nevaeh briefly said, then ran away to the mansion.
"We better get started on your lesson for today," Chockici says, rubbing his forehead.
I can't believe those two. What was in the water? Why wouldn't they talk about it? Gabberflasted, I follow Chockichi to the aquarium slash lake.
"So... what exactly are we doing today?" I ask suspiciously. I was NOT going to feed leviathans.
"You're going to breath underwater."
I stop in my tracks. Cocking my head, I ask, "What? Seriously? How?"
He flashed me a look with a huge smirk.
"Oh. You aren't serious, are you?" I tell him, shoulders slumped. Shoot.
"Oh, no I'm perfectly serious. You're getting your first-" He glances at Chime who has been lurking in the grass. "Erm, second creature today. Which you better be pretty grateful for, considering the events this morning," He scowled at me, but I didn't care. I was going to get another creature!
"So what kind of creature is it? Am I really going to be able to breath underwater?" I say excitedly, running up to catch up with him.
"A koi fish."
"What kind? You mean, like, a dragon koi? A vampire koi?"
"A regular, stream koi fish."
Ughh. Just when I though the day was going to be exciting.
"How does that have anything to do with breathing underwater?" I ask rudely, not trying to had my disappointment.
"You just wait. You'll love them. Also, if you swim under one, you can breathe underwater," He replies calmly.
"Who told you that?"
"Here we are," Chockichi says with a smile, gesturing to the immensely huge aquarium. I gaze up at all of the tree-sized tanks, each one holding a different magnificent creature.
"Wow," I breathe. Chockichi grabs my wrist and drags the drunk in thoughts Thelema to the koi tank. There must've been a koi fish in there! Vampire koi, Purple pond koi, Dragon koi, and the ever so popular stream koi. I blew a strand of hair out of my face.
"This is it?" I say, not trying to sound impressed. I can't let him know how much I'm enjoying this. Chockichi shoots me a look.
"Wait here," He says, then continues through the maze of tanks. Hah. Like I'm going to stay right here with all of the boring koi.
I run out of the tank section and to the lake. I smile broadly at the reflection in the green water. Soon the reflection breaks with a huge serpent head. I try to stifle a shriek, not wanting Chockichi to know where I am. I put a hand on my chest, trying to stop breathing so hard and roughly. The leviathan raises it's head to my level, so that we're face to face. I back up a little bit, but slip in the mud and topple down into the water. My mouth reaches the surface of the mucky water as I gasp for air.
"Can't...swim!" I manage to gulp. A huge body collides into me from under, raising me out of the water. It takes me a moment to realize that the leviathan just saved my little, hopeless life. I cling to it as though it's my love of life.
"Glimmer!" I hear an unfamiliar voice shout.
"Glimmer, Glimmer....agh."
I peek out of the neck of the leviathan to see a brown, ear length haired tan guy yelling at this monster.
"Erm...hello?" I call out. He swims over to me.
"Hey, I'm Cole. Uhm...what are you doing?" He replies.
"Derh...uhm...I slipped....and fell..." I reply, embarrassed to let him see me like this.
"Thelema!" This time a very familiar voice calls.
Oh no.
He found me.

I was supposed to kill magi, not save them. I'm going soft, finally. This can't happen.
I run my hand over Styx (lethe kelpie), and he grunted in approval. I stare at the magi.
She was... different. Not normal. Sure, almost anyone would reach out for Styx, but he didn't move.
