The Hobbit movie chat thread
Re: The Hobbit movie chat thread
How is the Necromancer going to come into play? He's only mentioned in the book!
Yeah, I have read the Lord of the Rings. I didn't mean it when I said the wood elves were evil. They just come off...less that friendly...in The Hobbit.

He'll probably be in the second movie, the bridge story between The Hobbit and LotR
Re: The Hobbit movie chat thread
Yeah... I though the Necromancer was Sauron.
Soo...the second movie is not actually a book Tolkien wrote, but just a movie to bridge the gap between The Hobbit and That Lord of the Rings? Sounds interesting.

From what I understand, it's going to be about the stuff Tolkien did write, but he, himself never finished, the notes were compiled and published by his son. There are several books in the MiddleEarth world, such as the Silmarilion (not sure if i spelled that right). That one actually comes before Hobbit and is some of the history of Elves and Sauron and such.

Yup, the bridge movie is taking its information from notes written by Tolkien and compiled by his son, so they aren't just making it up.TNHawke wrote:From what I understand, it's going to be about the stuff Tolkien did write, but he, himself never finished, the notes were compiled and published by his son. And yes, The Simarillion and Children of Hurin are both novels taking place in Middle Earth several thousand years before The Hobbit (in fact, probably before the war where the Ring was cut from Sauron's hand).
Also, the appendices at the end of LotR contain lots of history/info about Middle Earth and the characters in the books.

Letting everyone know my bestie has a LOTR Guild. The Hobbit is probably it's main focus now, since there's more info, but it's all together, you know...

I read that Evangeline Lilly's character, Tauriel (a Mirkwood Elf) is supposed to be the head of the Elven guard. Kind of fitting for her -- I don't know how many of you watched the show Lost, but she seems to be good at playing women who can kick butt, lol. She's probably going to be leading the group that captures the Dwarves (minus Thorin, since he got caught earlier). I look forward to seeing what her character will be like. She was a wonderful actress in Lost, and I think she'll make a great Elf.
Re: The Hobbit movie chat thread
I have read all of the Lord of the Rings book, the Hobbit, and seen all the animated hobbit and lord of the ring movies at five, and have seen the new hobbit and own all the extended editions of Lord of the Rings. I also play the game Lord of the Rings online, and have the film score music on my iPod. Yeah, I'm a fanatic.

Re: The Hobbit movie chat thread
YES! HOBBIT THREAD!!!
I love The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings! They are my favorites, (books and movies)
The only thing I have an issue with is that one scene in The Desolation of Smaug, when Gloin reads the runes on the wall inside of Erebor. He says, "Herein lies the seventh kingdom of Durin's folk, may the heart of the mountain unite all dwarves in defense of this home." The problem with that, is that it actually says "Herein lies the seventh kingdom of Durin's folk, if this fortress be lost or overthrown look to the power of the Arkenstone."
( And before anyone asks, Yes, I can read/write in Dwarvish, and Yes, I was obsessed enough to pause the movie in the middle of that scene and read the runes myself )
