Aiden nodded at Raven "Careful is our middle name." he said with a playful wink before she shifted and took off.
Kieran snorted "Careful is our middle name??" he scoffed "Since when??"
Aiden waved his hand at his brother and chuckled "Come on, let's track down that bobcat." with that, he shifted into his wolf form, shaking out his brown pelt and watching as Kieran shifted down as well.
They left their weapons in the clearing and raced down to the creek. There, they found the tracks again and began to follow them with noses to the ground.
They followed them for about 10 minutes, until they came to a bank surrounded by rocks and trees.
Both paused when a low, warning growl reached their ears.
The two quickly spotted the mother bobcat, sitting on the top of a hollow den. Her ears were laid back, her short tail twitched, and her sharp eyes remained locked on the two boys.
Aiden lowered his head, and he and Kieran began to move in.
The bobcat flattened herself to the ground, watching as the two closed in on her from opposite sides. Suddenly, with a loud scream, she lashed out at Aiden.
Aiden jumped back and snarled, then he and Kieran both charged her.
She grabbed Aiden by the scuff of his neck, sinking her claws and her teeth into him, but Kieran pounced on top of her and began to give her the same treatment.
When she released Aiden and twisted around to deal with Kieran, Aiden pounced on her and began to tear at her.
And so this continued on for a couple of minutes, the threesome rolling around the area, flattening plants, tearing hide, and emitting horrible snarls and growls until the bobcat's strength failed and she lost the fight.
Aiden gave killing bite, sinking his teeth deep into her neck and then shaking her viciously.
All seemed abnormally quiet for a long moment as the two wolves stepped back from the body, panting heavily.
"You look awful." Kieran remarked.
Aiden looked at his twin, taking in the bits of torn hide and missing tufts of fur "Well thank you, so do you." he said.
"Really, I think you got the brunt of the attack." Kieran said, stepping up and sniffing Aiden with a worried wag of his tail "You practically fed yourself to her."
Aiden sighed, still panting, and shrugged slightly, looking down at the blood dripping from his pelt "Oh well."
Both of them suddenly perked up when they heard a small mew.
They looked back at the den and saw two kits stumble out of the den, their ears laid back and staring with wide eyes at the two wolves.
Aiden stood and walked over, poking his nose down and smelling the foremost one.
The kit hissed and patted his nose, making Aiden yelp and jump back, but then a grin broke across Aiden's face.
"That didn't even hurt!" he said, looking at his brother "Look at them. They are just barely walking."
Kieran came up and smelled the kits from a safe distance "So?" he asked, looking at Aiden.
Aiden wagged his tail "Well, I wonder if they would make good pets??"
Kieran looked back at the kits and studied them for a moment, then shrugged "Well, we can see..." he walked up then and carefully nudged one of the kits before grabbing it by the scruff of the neck.
The kit hissed in protest, then it curled up it's feet and tucked it's tail, curling into the fetal position.
Aiden followed his brother's example, picking up the kit that had swatted him, then the two wolves started back toward camp, with bobcat kits hanging from their mouths.
