General
Towering over the grasslands surrounding the Etain Desert, the temple giraffes are easily recognizable from other types of giraffes by the golden band that adorns their long graceful neck. They are highly social creatures, traveling in small, but close-knit herds of up to ten or twenty. Because of their size and power, not many creatures will ever try to harm them. If threatened, they are able to use the heat of their surroundings to their advantage by creating a heat shield that will surround them. This shield, from the outside, looks like nothing more than a shimmering haze that all but makes them vanish from view, but if someone or something should happen to touch this shield, they will come away with severe burns, discouraging predators. Sometimes a temple giraffe is born with a dark coloration. No one is quite sure as to why this is, but these giraffes tend to be less sociable, preferring to be left alone. Dark giraffes are more aggressive than their sandy colored counterparts; standing and fighting rather than fleeing. If pushed too far, they are able to ignite the air, creating a great wall of flames that surrounds them.
Egg
This dark colored egg has a golden band wrapped around it.
Hatchling
Temple Giraffe hatchlings are a bundle of energy from the moment they hatch, only stopping to eat or sleep. Like the adults, hatchlings are social creatures and enjoy playing with other temple giraffes or their magi. As they grow, they quickly learn to use their magic, often disappearing in a shimmery haze if they are ever frightened. Out in the wild, hatchlings will never leave sight of their herd and more often than not, they will be found in the middle surrounded by adults, all of which will protect them fiercely, so it is unwise to ever try and approach a hatchling in the wild.
Adult
Reaching adulthood, temple giraffes calm down considerably, though they sometimes can be quite playful, but you will most often find them grazing and lazing about with other temple giraffes. They make for good traveling companions and some magis prefer them to meldops when crossing the Etain Desert. In the wild, temple giraffes are often skittish around magis and will disappear at the sight of one. This makes finding them fairly difficult unless you know what you are looking for. Despite this, they have been known to help lost travelers find their way in the desert and on very rare occasions, they may even gift the magi with an egg.
