Cardinal Oryn #1545

General

A simple fish by looks, with black and white stripes, the cardinal oryn has control over both light and liquids. The magic it possesses is not useful in dangerous situations or medical instances. It is purely aesthetic. As long as an object has liquid in or around it, the oryn's magic can affect it. By manipulating the light and reshaping the liquid, the oryn can make things turn from one color to another. If trained properly, the fish can change simple shades into beautiful patterns of a multitude of colors. The effect is instant, and it cannot be felt. However, it is not permanent, fading over time. Many students befriend these creatures as they become loyal if given enough affection and attention. Always willing to cause a little mischief, the oryns will help students play pranks on others by changing the color of someone's skin. Although independent, the oryns love it when they are spoiled with copepod treats. They can eat ten times their size as well as spend weeks without needing any food. Even so, they will never refuse a treat in exchange for a little color-changing trick.

Egg

There is nothing special about this round, small egg.

Hatchling

Cardinal oryn hatchlings form schools of about twenty to thirty individuals, usually cared for by a single adult. In some cases, they live with other different fish in an attempt to feel secure. As they grow, the cardinal oryn hatchlings detach themselves from the fish schools, preferring a more independent life. They live around a variety of structures like rocks, water plants, or even shells. If kept in tanks, they need castles or rock caves, places in which they can hide. Oryn hatchlings manifest no magic at very young ages. While they can only be trained once they near maturity, the bond between the magi and the oryn plays an important role. Patience is key. They require a lot of attention from their magi, the young hatchlings always seeking affection. Playing with the oryn or even keeping a hand in its tank will get the hatchling attached to the magi. Once they start manifesting their magic, they are more willing to help the people they already bonded with.

Adult

There is nothing majestic about the cardinal oryn adults. With their black and white colored bodies and simple fins, they lack the beauty other fish have. Even so, they are quite popular because of their skills. If one wants to have one or several oryns as companions, they need to provide them plenty of attention as the older these fish get, the more independent they become. Oryn adults often forget about their hatchlings. It is rare to find an adult actually interested in looking after the young ones. Those that try rapidly become overwhelmed by the high number of hatchlings. Their lack of interest in caring for the young could be blamed on their poor parenting skills. Changing the colors of rocks or fish is more fascinating than feeding the hatchlings or keeping them safe from possible threats. Weirdly enough, they do enjoy the company of other cardinal oryn adults. They will swim together and change the colors of different things in an attempt to impress each other.
