Verdant Harvest Kitsune #1571

General

Compared to other foxes, the harvest kitsunes are small, and they take advantage of their size to squeeze through tight spaces and break into pantries and kitchens with ease. If some trickster creatures do this to steal food, the harvest kitsunes do the exact opposite. They leave food and flowers for people, all of them enchanted. The vegetables and fruit taste magnificent, and those who eat them become kinder, warmer, happier, and more open to change. The flowers have little scent, but they can be dried and used in potions that heal all sorts of aches - heartaches not included. What grows on the foxes' bodies should not be removed by force, though. Instead, the harvest kitsunes prefer to gift people their enchanted food and flowers. If one steals from the foxes, they will find the food to taste horrible and the flowers to turn potions into poisons. As such, everyone waits patiently for the kitsunes to share their magical goodies.

Egg

A single ear of rye pokes out of this egg.

Hatchling

Harvest kitsune hatchlings sleep as much as cats, sometimes even cuddling with them. When awake, the foxes play with other hatchlings, regardless of species, with little care. They bite and claw at things, destroy rugs and shoes, having an endless amount of energy. They are very attached to their parents and feed exclusively on the flowers, vegetables, and fruit that grow on their backs. The hatchlings accept treats from their magi but only as toys, refusing to eat what they receive. No harvest kitsune hatchling has ever been seen eating anything other than what their parents give them, so it is uncertain if they are picky or if what other foxes eat does not nourish them.

Adult

Adult harvest kitsunes are very loud when they are not sneaking around. They cheerfully greet other kitsunes, creatures, and people, an array of barks echoing through the Keep whenever the harvest kitsune adults are around. They never tire of squeaking at people and will greet their magi numerous times a day, even if they never leave the magi's side. Nothing gives them away when sneaking around, and no one knows which magi's kitsunes to blame when they make their rounds to the kitchens and pantries, filling them with food and flowers to the brim. The flowers wither quickly, so storing them in jars for future use is easy, but the food never goes bad and has to be disposed of pretty often. Although the adult foxes can be trained to visit less fortunate people and gift them much-needed food and healing potion supplies, the kitsunes still favor their magi and frequently leave the kitchens overabundant.
