General
The elusive volitons are rarely spotted. They tend to inhabit far-away mountains and prefer mostly to keep their own company, even though some individuals end up in the Keep every now and then. Some say the volitons are related to gryphons whereas some argue they more closely resemble dragons. The exact origin of the creatures is unknown and much debate has been put into identifying and classifying the creatures and no consensus has been reached to this day. The power of these companions has also been wildly discussed. The volitons appear to have the power to mould any material into any shape they wish without physically touching the material. They practice this skill throughout their lives, and the older the creature is, the harder materials they can shape and the more complex patterns they can achieve. The oldest individuals are said to be able to create stunning sculptures beyond what any human carver could accomplish.

This dark egg is hovering slightly above the ground and is emitting a tingly aura
Hatchling
Voliton hatchlings start trying to shape objects the moment they hatch. It is not unusual to spot a voliton hatchling floating a drop of water or a bundle of wet clay in front of it with a concentrated look in its eye. However, their power is less refined than an adult's, and their efforts will often yield nothing but oddly shaped lumps of earth. Sometimes, however, voliton hatchlings will present their magi with a clumsy, lumpy object that in good light and with squinted eyes might be considered a sculpture of their magi.
Adult
A grown up voliton has long since forsaken water and clay and moved to wood, sand, rocks, ice, and any and all other materials around them. Volitons that reside in the Keep pay little attention whether an object or material they bend with their magic belongs to someone or not. A careless student may find his potion bottles in the shape of a frog or their quill unusable after a voliton has had its way with it. The volitons are a favoured companion with a few traveling entertainers who feel general displays of magic use among the villagers isn't exciting enough. They set up their stage and hide the voliton behind the curtains and then pretend to shape objects to awe the onlookers, while in truth, the voliton does the actual job. Due to this, the Keep has a strict policy of everyone providing a record of their voliton to the Keep to avoid such antics.
