General
The lakireldar is one of the world's most dangerous creatures, due to both its enormous size and its quick temper. It will happily pick a fight with anyone or anything near it, and its sharp teeth, huge claws, and tough scales make it a formidable opponent. Fortunately lakireldar are only found within the Scarlands, around the base of Magnis, where they blend in well with the solidified lava and volcanic ash. Magi who have dared to study them believe that they live by drinking lava and that this is possibly the reason they're always in a bad mood. Lakireldar don't even like members of their own species that much and generally only tolerate each other when mating and for the female, raising hatchlings just long enough that they can survive on their own.

Hatchling
A lakireldar hatchling is already the size of a large dog when it hatches, and any magi taking on the challenge of raising one must handle it with the utmost care. Hatchlings grow rapidly and no matter how gently they're treated, they tend to be snappy, aggressive, and generally unpleasant to be around. Magi taking care of one should know that a lakireldar can never truly be tamed and it's usually best to simply release it once it can take care of itself. Magi should also beware a lakireldar hatchling rolling over to seemingly offer its belly; this is a trap.
Adult
Signs posted around the Scarlands warn magi to keep a careful eye out for lakireldar, and travellers are often discouraged from approaching Magnis if it can be avoided. Lakireldar adults can grow to a massive size and see nothing wrong with attacking anyone or anything that ventures into their territory, including other lakireldar. Those who have managed to observe lakireldar - from a safe distance - report that despite its aggressive behaviour, the animal itself is quite beautiful, its dark scales gleaming with purple and blue hues under the sunlight. These scales can fetch quite a high price in the right market, due to the danger of collecting them, but most magi simply find it easier to stay out of a lakireldar's way - possibly on the other side of the world.
