Rauna crystalwings prefer mating in the days surrounding the full moon with spring being their main mating season. It is then that they form vast, shallow pools of water in which their lay their eggs. The rauna hatchlings hatch in this watery nest and spend the majority of their first few months playing in the water, slowly forming the bond that will stay with them throughout their lives. The happy chirps of the playing hatchlings occasionally rise to excited squeals when one of them manages to make even the tiniest wave. It is when the hatchlings start reshaping the sides of their watery nest to create water slides into the nearby stream that the adult raunas know that the hatchlings are ready to leave the nest

The rauna crystalwings are only found in the depths of the Tetzcotal jungle. There they make their home in a wide-reaching underground system of tunnels and caverns, a home they have built using their unique bond with water; Adult raunas are able to persuade any body of water to change its course. Through using the water's power they can drill through virtually anything, thus easily expanding their underground home. It is thought that this bond is at its strongest during full moon, at which time their citrine-coloured gems are rumoured to glow with the light of the moon.
