When the alphyn hatches the only sign of its firey origins can be seen in the wispy flames at the end of its tail. The fire burns neither the alphyn nor its humans, but can be dangerous to anyone perceived as a threat. The gold and jewels covering the egg's shell reshaped itself to jewellery bedecking the hatchling. It loves to play with it and can spend many happy hours chasing the glittering specks of light bouncing off its decorations. Though seemingly possessing boundless energy, it will eventually tire and seek you out for a snuggle and a snooze, happy to curl up in the folds of your robes or even a small bag as long as it's close to you.
Anpean alphyns appear rarely and only under very specific circumstances. There are many different funeral rites around the world, some highly complex and detailed, others simple. One of the more spectacular has its origins in the Etain desert but has since spread to various corners of the world. The deceased is cremated on a funeral pyre, and it is believed that their soul is then guided into the afterlife through the smoke curling into the air. On rare occasions a golden anpean alphyn egg may be found in the resulting ashes. This is taken as a sign that the deceased has led a charitable and generous life, for which their loved ones are now rewarded. Receiving an anpean alphyn in this way will bring luck and good fortune, and rumour has it that once the time comes, the anpean alphyn will be there to guide its humans into the afterlife.
