Lakiran seahorses are beautiful creatures, the blue and purple of their scales echoing the blue of the ocean and the purple of a dusk sky. They love to swim with their magi, arcing in colorful patterns around them. They also swim together, and a group of them will create an impressive display of glowing lights as they all swim in a pattern only they seem to understand. The lights they create do not remain, instead flashing on their bodies. Some think the seahorses use their shimmering scales to communicate, with quick flashes signifying happiness and a dull glow indicating sadness or sickness. When not glowing, your seahorse is happy to swim next to you and munch happily on the reeds by the lake.
Lakiran seahorses are friendly creatures, easy to tame and completely loyal. They are hard to find, preferring to stay near the bottom of the lake, and their small size makes them surprisingly hard to spot despite the beautiful color of their scales. Their scales themselves, however, are widely considered the most interesting thing about them. The scales of a Lakiran seahorse are incredibly valuable for artists. When a scale is removed, they generate their own light, like miniature sunbeams, and the beams of light remain where the scale has been dragged. With a touch of magic and permission of the seahorse, a few scales of different colors can be removed and used like a brush on canvas--but the canvas isn't needed, and the image will remain in the air, a collection of beams of light. It will remain as long as the seahorse lives. Pictures drawn from the magic of a seahorse scale cannot be moved, so rich individuals will pay obscene amounts of money for a light display to be created within their houses.
