Shuihu hatchlings are cute little things that are never quite solid and never quite fully liquid, trailing small wet paw prints behind them with every step. They are the size of a large kitten when they first hatch, and will tolerate being picked up by a magi, though they often grow tired of being held and turn themselves more liquid in order to flow out of the magi’s grasp. Shuihu hatchlings love to play with their littermates, their magi, and even normal kittens, though normal kittens often aren’t quite as enthused about their watery playmates. Half-liquid as they are, shuihu hatchlings are even better than the average cat at getting into places they aren’t supposed to, and so a magi raising one needs to keep a close eye on their shuihu hatchling to make sure it doesn’t get into too much trouble.
Found mostly in remote, soggy wetlands, shuihu are slightly smaller on average than their kuras tiger cousins, and generally more friendly. While they are slightly aloof, like most tigers, wild ones have been known to leave their remote marshes to seek out the company of magi from time to time. Shuihu have a playful streak, and those raised at the Keep will sometimes use their powers to prank visitors to Lake Lakira, hiding in the water and giving unsuspecting passers by quite a fright by springing forth when they draw near. It is said that shuihu have righteous souls, and are able to sniff out the justness of one’s cause. It is unclear how much truth there is to that claim, but there exist many folk tales of shuihu assisting outlaws in fighting greedy oppressors.
