These chubby little hatchlings love to spend their time in warm waters, and will climb into their magi's bath with them if allowed. As they grow, they shed their skins like snakes until they reach their full size. Hatchlings are clumsy and will often need help shedding their skin for at least the first few times, and magi should always be careful to keep an eye on them when they begin to shed. Koi sailfin wyrm hatchlings hatch from their eggs with unique patterns of red, black, and white. Heavier than their regal cousins, they also tend to be more aggressive despite their clumsiness, and magi should be careful to avoid bites that break the skin, as koi sailfins are both poisonous and venomous. Fortunately, however, sailfin wyrms are smart creatures and can easily be taught to be gentle.
Sailfin wyrms are most often found in tropical areas, where they can swim and play in warm waters. They tend to avoid the deep ocean but can be spotted in rivers and lakes, as well as hot springs and any unattended baths. Koi sailfin wyrms are brightly marked with red on their black and white skins, which not only helps them camouflage at the bottoms of rivers and lakes, but also warns predators that they're poisonous to eat. The larger of the two types of sailfin wyrms, they're heavy, solid creatures who use their size as well as their horns in combat and in dominance displays against other sailfin wyrms. Although not the largest of wyrms, they still grow to a decent size and provide pleasant companionship to any magi who takes the time to raise them.
