Not many magi keep mycotic unicorn adults as companions, as their drastically changing behavior is not worth the trouble. Since the mushroom that controls its body reacts to the environment and people around it differently than how the unicorn would, this creature appears insane and disturbing very often. If one moment the unicorn is skittish, the next it is crazy, ready to bite or poke someone with its horn. Always eager to help, the mycotic unicorn will turn insane if not allowed to heal the wounded. Some magi let them mend minor wounds, but allowing them to heal magical creatures is strictly forbidden. While the infection can’t affect people, it will transmit to other creatures, and the risk of them mutating and becoming controlled by the mushroom is high. Stalking is in its nature, and the unicorn will patiently watch until a creature is injured, always there to spread the infection through its healing magic. Though some mycotic unicorns look normal and behave decently, studies have shown they are still infected, the mushroom remaining dormant in their bodies. There is no telling what could trigger the mushroom to become active and take complete control over the unicorn, turning it from a lovely creature into a crazed one.

Some forest areas are usually left unexplored for a reason, but now and again, someone bravely ventures into them only to return with the craziest tales ever. One such tale speaks about a beautiful unicorn that is just... not right. Unicorns are known for their calm nature and desire to heal, and the ones inhabiting these parts of the woods seem to be no exception to this rule. However, these stories about uncanny unicorns sound more like fairytales than believable experiences. Even so, word returns to the Keep more and more often, everyone speaking about musty-scented unicorns with visible bones and mushrooms growing on their bodies. Magi are used to seeing such creatures by now, the anacita bunny, deadwood deer, and lichenthrope all having been recorded and observed. The forgotten unicorn is also a creature the magi know about, with its bones showing and its body decaying. Tales of these unicorns seem different, though, and refer to an entirely new creature.
