At the size of a horse and black as night, one would think an infernal imp would be easy to spot, especially in the grassy, misty plains they call home. Many magi quickly discover that this is not so; infernal imps are incredibly fast and are often gone before a magi can take a second look. They are also able to disappear from sight in the blink of an eye - infernal imps are well known for their ability to dissolve into mist. They will commonly reappear right in front of their observer, leading to quite a scare. Infernal imps are most active in mid to late fall, especially during the harvest. As adults, infernal imps can still be distracted fairly easily. They're fond of pumpkins and pumpkin treats in particular, leading to a persistent tradition of leaving out jack-o-lanterns and pumpkin pies to distract them from playing pranks.
Frequently the companions of dark magi, infernal imps have a well-noted mean streak, playing more frightening pranks than their much smaller cousins. Magi avoid them just the same, too, because they're similarly unnerving; spotting a glowing pair of yellow eyes watching them is enough to send even brave magi back to their quarters. Infernal imps are solitary beasts except when raising their young, preferring their own company. They are distant with their magi, but remain loyal. However, infernal imps consider others of their kind to be threats and may go so far as to attack. For this reason it is not uncommon to find scars on their hides from fights. They are proud and vengeful creatures as well - slights are not tolerated and they may hold grudges for years. Despite their bad attitudes, they can make excellent mounts for their magi, being notable for their speed, surefootedness and stamina.
