Element: Life
By the time muyangs reach adulthood, they have a stately, calm bearing which is nearly impossible to shake. They prefer consistency and predictability but will tolerate chaos with stoic understanding, and many magi love to put them with the more excitable hatchlings, as their unflappable demeanor can help to steady the younger companions. They are incredibly sure-footed, and even when stepping over loose scree, seem able to sink down tendrils of magic like stabilizing roots. Because of this, they are often brought along on any journey over difficult terrain.
Muyang are ruminants with a surprisingly unique life-cycle. Without the intervention of magic, they sit dormant in egg form for 12 years, at the end of which time they sprout more than hatch, spending another dozen years as a sapling-hatchling, before finally reaching a state of maturity. As they age, they gain a more complex grain to their wooden hide, and the symbiotic moss which their magic manipulates can cover more and more of their bodies. When they reach adulthood, they can cover themselves in this moss entirely, looking like a mound of verdant green. The moss makes an excellent tea when carefully trimmed from the muyang, and has a clarifying property which can help restore perspective and bestow calm. Students find it especially helpful to drink during mid-terms and finals week.
