Spending time with an Ixan capybara is likely to leave you feeling as relaxed as they do. These rodents, large enough to carry small children, possess a limited power to induce relaxation in those nearby. Many a student with an Ixan capybara companion has missed a class due to the influence of these creatures. It has no effect on other Ixan capybara, however. Although they typically mind their own business, Ixan capybara can be quite demanding and will headbutt their magi when they want attention or treats. They are rarely aggressive unless they or their young are threatened, but if necessary they can inflict vicious bites. Due to their strong musky odor, they must be bathed regularly. Their hair must also be combed often so it doesn't knot.
The semiacquatic Ixan capybara, native to Tetzcotal and the Candle Archipelagos, is a quite docile creature. Indeed, they never seem to mind it when the calaveras monkeys or other small creatures hitch a ride on them. Their gentle and tolerant nature makes them a favorite among children, as does their willingness to take small children for rides. Despite this, Ixan capybara are actually quite alert, especially females with young. Ixan capybara are prey to many creatures, including the large snakes of the jungle. At the Keep, they are quite well liked and can readily be trained as pack animals for those magi travelling through the jungle. They must be kept away from the gardens, though, or they may munch their way through the harvest.
