Lunarcalia hatchlings hatch with so much white fluff, their beak and blue eyes almost disappear in the spray of feathers. Although shy with strangers, they soon warm up, and love to play with children - especially if those children share their candy. They're noisy hatchlings, with a call that sounds oddly similar to a rusty hinge, but very few magi can stay annoyed with them. Hatchlings are happiest in big groups, but if no big groups are available, they're also content to ride around on their magi's shoulder. On occasion, in a crowded area, the hatchling will stop playing and look at a specific person; many magi have found both friends and lovers by gathering the courage to speak to the person that their lunarcalia hatchling has found so interesting.
The lunarcalia is a loving, affectionate companion, though magi should watch to make sure all their candy doesn't disappear due to the lunarcalia's sweet tooth. Although they aren't the most intelligent creatures, lunarcalia make up for it by being cheerful and loyal. In many places, the lunarcalia is considered to be an emblem of both romantic and platonic love, and magi wishing to make a romantic proposal often present a lunarcalia egg to their intended. Other cultures believe that the lunarcalia's wide blue eyes can see into the future, and can predict whether or not a relationship - of any kind - will be successful.
