Despite being able to fit in your palm, autumn dragons don't take well to being held or petted. They are fiercely independent, but their trust is fairly easy to gain. An adult autumn dragon has fully developed its wind magic and is able to generate surprisingly strong winds; they use this primarily to kick up debris to blind an attacker and disguise its own escape. This ability extends to their mating rituals, wherein males and females will display for one another. After finding a suitable partner, they hollow out a nest in a tree, where they will lay a single egg and incubate it through the winter, spring, and summer.
Autumn dragons are very small as dragons go, only about the size of large butterflies. It is possible but rare to see a few during spring and summer but they are very common during fall, when they emerge en masse from forests as the leaves begin to change color. These dragons also signal the beginning of the harvest, and eager gardeners and children are quick to leave out offerings of small fruits and vegetables for them, while the dragons leave behind tiny feathers in return. When the harvest has ended and the cold weather and snow begins, autumn dragons leave the way they came: en masse, a great swarm blotting out the sky as they return to the forests from which they emerged to hibernate through the winter.
