Autumn dragons are very small as dragons go, only about the size of large butterflies. It is possible but rare to see a few during spring and summer but they are very common during fall, when they emerge en masse from forests as the leaves begin to change color. These dragons also signal the beginning of the harvest, and eager gardeners and children are quick to leave out offerings of small fruits and vegetables for them, while the dragons leave behind tiny feathers in return. When the harvest has ended and the cold weather and snow begins, autumn dragons leave the way they came: en masse, a great swarm blotting out the sky as they return to the forests from which they emerged to hibernate through the winter.
