With its naked head and large size, a fully-grown Alasrean cipetir can be a startling sight, whether up close or spotted in the sky. Fortunately they're generally gentle and intelligent birds who understand the relevant weaknesses of human magi. Their naked heads are thought to both help them keep clean when feeding off carrion, and to help them adjust their internal temperatures when needed. Alasrean cipetir mate for life and are conscientious parents to their chicks, raising them for a few years before the next egg is laid. This makes them somewhat rare in the wild, but they have few natural predators and are usually protected by magi for their assistance in cleaning bones.
Although large enough to rival some dragons, the Alasrean cipetir is generally not aggressive and relies on its impressive size and wingspan to intimidate anything that wants to attack it. Found mostly in the high peaks of the Alasre Mountains, cipetir can often be spotted winging high above on thermal winds, searching for the carrion they mostly subsist off of. Alasrean cipetir and their smaller cousins, the sarx cipetir, play an important role in cleaning bones, and magi who use bones in their magic often have a cipetir or two as a companion. When not flying or cleaning bones, Alasrean cipetir are often found sunning themselves on high peaks, and it's believed that they can draw energy from the sun.
