Young meurin dig their way out of underground nests on the lakeshore. Slow and small with no scales or thick layer of fat like the adults, they make their way toward the lake. Once they reach the lake, they head for the bottom, where the muddy lakebed will disguise them best. Here they remain in groups, feeding on small crustaceans and scraps that float down from higher up until they are large enough to fend for themselves.

Anyone looking casually at a lake in Alveus might spot what they think is a crocodile. However, many times what they see is a meurin, a peculiar creature exclusively found in Alvean lakes. Meurin grow slowly, only reaching their full size after about five years. Although quite stocky, their four large flippers enable them to move quickly through the water. Their flippers also enable them to climb onto the shore, where they lay their eggs at the end of the summer breeding season. Interestingly, they will also clamber onto the lakeshore, despite being slow and clumsy on land. They are just as unfriendly on land as they are in the water, jostling for the best spot and scaring others away.
