Frozen Female Hatchling
Name: unnamed
Species: Paxir Istiora
Birthday: Wednesday, August 30, 2017
Owner: Rosehill
Element: Light
Istiora hatchlings are curious but not particularly bright, though some researchers think this might just be because they're near-sighted. Either way, a magi raising an istiora should always keep in mind both their long sharp bill and, once they're older, their ability to create a shockwave with a single poke or slash. Paxir istiora hatchlings seem to enjoy cool and windy days, and will often play in the waves created by the wind, leaping in and out of the water. However, they also seem to prefer to play alone and while not aggressively territorial, they definitely display unhappiness when confined in a small space with too many other creatures, even other istiora. As they grow, this will usually turn into hunting the other creatures, with an especial fondness for kraken hatchlings, ice octopuses, and smaller ice krakens.
Paxir istiora can be found in oceans all over the world, including the icy waters of the north, though they seem to prefer more temperate zones. Istiora are large, heavy creatures that can not only outgrow many boats, but also outswim them. For this reason - and because the oceans are so large - few magi have been able to study them extensively, and those that do encounter them on the open sea are often driven away by their ability to create a shockwave. Eggs are also well-hidden, but a handful of istiora have been raised by researchers, at least until they outgrow their pools and have to be released. Paxir istiora have been known to break apart ice floes with their shockwave ability, when they travel north; in warmer waters, they will occasionally break small fishing boats in order to steal the day's catch.
