*Prologue*
“Now choose your first egg wisely.” A tall man with piercing blue eyes and blond hair known as Master Belmos examined the group of new, untrained Magi that stood before him as he spoke. His dark green cloak seemed to make him appear slightly more intimidating. “It will be your companion and always live alongside you.”
Nora turned her gaze away from the blond-haired professor only to stare at the stream behind him. She loved how peaceful it looked. The current didn’t go too fast, the eggs gently bobbing on the surface. That’s when she saw it. A grey egg with what looked like a few blue scales on it. That was the one. That was hers.
Master Belmos noticed Nora had her intense gaze set on the stream. ‘I guess she found her egg.’ he thought. He raised his hand to signal the students could now get there eggs. Of course, they all dashed towards the stream before he could say anything.
Nora dashed towards the egg she had first seen, sighing to see that it had not been taken yet. Suddenly, two hands that came from next to her snatched the egg before she could. “Hey!” she yelled in protest standing back up and turning so her gaze met her thief’s.
It was a teenage boy, no older than her, but slightly taller and had messy black hair. His brown eyes showed slight annoyance and little interest with speaking to Nora. “I got it first, so it’s mine.” he stated simply.
‘How rude!’ Nora thought angrily. Clenching her fists she held back the urge to slap him across the face. “I was right about to pick it up, jerk!” she growled.
The boy smirked at her. “You were too slow I guess.”
“Well, was it calling to you?” she argued, her face turning slightly pink from her anger.
The boy looked confused. “What?” He paused, thinking for a moment before answering. “No. I just thought it looked cool.”
Nora gritted her teeth. “Master Belmos said we have to pick an egg that calls out to us. Not just because it looks ‘cool’.”
“So?” he said smugly.
Just before Nora could slap him, a voice sounded from next to them. “Nora is right, Lance.”
The two teenagers turned in the direction of the voice to see Master Belmos towering over them by a few inches. He was looking at Lance, whose smirk had disappeared and was now replaced with a look of fear.
“Give Nora her egg back, please.” Master Belmos said sternly.
Lance mumbled something to himself angrily and then turned to face Nora. He handed her the egg reluctantly and then before he walked away he hissed, “I’ll get back at you for this.” He then stomped away angrily.
Nora turned back to face Master Belmos. “Why’d you help me?”
Master Belmos smiled. “That egg is rightfully yours. Lance had no right to take it.” He then stared at the little gray egg in both of her hands. “I wonder why you picked an Amphista though…” he seemed to say to no one.
“What does an Amphista look like?” Nora asked as curiosity struck her. She’d never heard of an Amphista before.
Master Belmos sighed and looked away for a moment before turning to face Nora. “You’ll just have to wait and see.” With that, he walked away, leaving her more curious than ever.
