I'm gonna have to do some trading once everything reaches the final stage so I kow what I have and don't have and what I actually want.

The only reason I ever started visiting the Free section was because there was something about it in the Guide to Getting Rares (something along that line), but I've generally had extremely good luck in terms of being there when people open up their threads and they have old pets and rares. That's probably why I have horrible luck with the Pound.

I've never posted in any of the forums there. The community generally sucks. I understand that those giving away in the give away section are probably nicer, but I'm too nervous to actually post there.

I don't know about nicer, but mostly they're not rude. I've only posted in one thread outside of the Free section, but it's dying now xD; I don't really know how great the forums are, but at least those two people were really nice to me.

When I first joined I sort of dabbled in the free adopts forum, but I remember not really getting many (if any?) pets. I didn't really spend a whole lot of time there though because the more cynical side of me figured that a lot of these people were like the ones Raneth described, and I didn't really bother. There were, however, several nice users who gifted me some free pets when I went around posting on the forum ^^

I don't really hang out/stalk many forums except for CS Chat, Suggestions and Problems (weird place to hang out, I know), the 18+ forum and a few other threads here and there. I find it difficult to strike up chats about things that don't really interest me, so I don't usually go to the places like General and stuff unless I'm really bored.

CS has a lot of younger users, so there's going to be a lot more immature people out there. I think maybe that's another reason why I tend to avoid the chat thread-type things, because I find that a lot of the chats there are kind of... eh. Unfulfilling, I guess? But if you want to go have some serious talks, the 18+ is a pretty good place to go. (They're not exactly chat threads, though xD)

Also, the Oekaki board can be fun sometimes

Adding my own experience about the free section.

In a couple of days I will be one month old on CS. And I love the free section. Every day there's someone posting "Quitting, take all my pets", some days more than one.

I guess I've been lucky, I haven't run into any of the horror stories - yet.

I have yet to get something very rare, and yes, it is frustrating when a trade is auto-cancelled because one of the pets I've chosen has been taken by someone else. But then you just send again, and hope. Just yesterday, I checked before going to bed, and managed to get a rare bat on my wishlist, it even shares my birthday.


However, my favourite is still this gorgeous cat, which a wonderful Magistreamer gifted me yesterday.

'Grats! I got that same bat as a gift from Nightjourneys here, when he and Soch asked for people's CS usernames and did some random giftbombing.
My free section luck has been variable. So far I've only obtained just one rare from there (which makes it a total of 2 rares for me), but can't deny that it has helped me to get much of my uncommon/common wishlist out of the way. c:
