You know what i hate? Carnivals that give out fish. The fish they give out (generally speaking.) Are covered in parasites, and deformed in some way due to inbreeding. :I.

Wow, you've got some horrible carnivals there. The ones I've seen have been super stressed out goldfish, but no worse inbred or diseased than any other feeder fish you can pick up at Walmart. Stressed because of lots of travel, ping pong balls bouncing around them, tiny cups, heat (regularly in the 90s to 100s during fair season here in southern Idaho)... And really, who knows when the last time they were fed was, or if their water is treated, or just straight from the tap or irrigation (canal water). And then being toted around in a bag to go home and... put in what? How many of those folks actually have a 10 gal tank set up and ready to go for them? 5% MAYBE? 1%? Probably still a high number.

Worse were the ones where you could win a lizard pin. A live green anole lizard wearing a collar that was on a small string attached to a pin. You pin it to your shirt and wear it. Poor little tropical lizards with very specific needs... Most of them probably starved to death at best, and died of MBD at worst and a whole range of things that could happen in between. I'm glad I only saw that booth once.

Great, now I'm all pissed off and growly. I need some happy thoughts.

We have green anoles everywhere in florida, they are pretty hardy from what I hear but how long can one survive in heat like that they been misting and heat lamps I can't imagine even one of those poor animals surviving.

They are definitely not native to the desert of southern Idaho. If any did last very long, it would be because responsible folks went to a pet store and got them what they actually need.

Oh my god, thankfully ive never seen a lizard pin. I wouldve flipped sh#t. Im not joking though, we have a fair called "Farm Fair" every year for a week. Games and cattle shows, tractor pulls, etc. I was there yesterday with my boyfriend. The same stand that had the goldfish also had anoles, and hermit crabs. I own two anoles already, Green Bean and Lil' Buddy, and i love them to death. It broke my heart when i saw those anoles at the fair, about 20 of them in a mesh cage with no heat lamp, no food, no water, hardly any shelter. That day, it was about 75-80 degrees outside. Unacceptable for an anole without a heatlamp..... lets just say i refused to let anyone play the vendors game. The vendor called the police, and they said since i wasnt breaking any laws, they cant do anything.

xD. I told the vendor woman, "Im not a man who hits women at all, but im not a man who abuses little creatures either. Ill gladly punch you to stop them from being abused."

I think I would have countered their calling the police with a call to animal control. Of course, in this town, AC is a joke. they would have blown such a call off. But in Boise they probably would have come and at least insisted on water and shelter for the lizards. Boise Animal Control has shut down two pet stores in the mall there because of horrific conditions for the animals. AC here in Twin won't even look in on the local pet store that's been running for years, but does things like keep green iguanas and bearded dragons in the same tank with fish gravel and a hot rock - and that's it. Nothing to climb on but each other. No shelter, no full spectrum lighting, no difference between desert and tropical. They do the same with snakes. Turtles live piled on top of each other in a sink. Rats and mice are reduced to eating each other because there's no food or water. They keep 2 to 3 ferrets in a freaking 10 gal tank with pine shavings! And Animal Control turns a blind eye to them because it's a small town and the dude's been in business since forever. It's absolutely disgusting.

Thats discusting. I want their adress, because im gonna fix that. Sainler will raise so much hell they will stop, because thats awful. Id go in there and take photos of each and every animal, then start to fix the problems myself. Id take a bag of mouse food from their shelves and feed the mice, etc etc. Give me their adress and company name, because im writing to Yelp, and every other website i can find. -.-
