Re: Darrk's Art Thread (NPC's A'hoy!)
That NPC art is awesome
Kestrad has been eaten by life. She'll probably pop back in occasionally.

Re: Darrk's Art Thread (NPC's A'hoy!)
Not much to share, but new creature released means leftovers to share.
Red eyes is the only dif, because I was thinking in terms of it being an albino. ApprenticeCrone I believe compared it to an abominable snow monster due to evilness. So, we went with a more pleasant blue color instead!
Random note, Jrap17 is awesome at texturing snow. (also at making snowflakes!)

Okay, I sent this to Taliesen already, so I can share here now. I made it on a whim... Taliesen's avatar (made by Munin) was there, and inspiration struck and...Fabulousness happened...
Distinguished Ferret for Tali.

I keep feeling like I should have slapped a mustache on it as well.NyxNoire wrote: Very dashing and handsome gentle-ferret you have there.
So, I found this quick-n-cute doodle I had forgotten about. I was planning on either doing something with them myself or making them available for others to use on Valentine's Day. However my Grandmother passed away early morning on Valentines Day and, well, I don't really need to explain why things were put aside. Putting it here for others to use however they see fit. Just sorry it is too late for Valentine's usage.

I'm sorry for your loss, my condolences.
It's a very cute bat any time of year.

So, the Cockatrice finally got released. I actually have a lot of boring stuff to share about it, but first, the concept sketch...
Boring long-winded ramblings below...

Spoiler
Let me first say that this one has been sitting around for 2 years+ I believe it was. My design followed the aesthetic established by GlassWalker for the Amagnae (aka Turkatrice). And I originally pitched them as being the random result of a breeding between any Dismots. (Low % change of getting them, something similar to getting an albino from the Direwolves). And in my head, they were like Cuckoo Birds. The Cockatrice wouldn't raise their young on their own, they would find a Dismot nest, kill (possibly devour) the eggs and lay one of their own leaving the Dismot to raise it. This would obviously cause troubles with parentage though, so maybe that's why it never took off. I don't know. The eggs would look like Dismot eggs if we used this idea (which we did not).
An alternate idea was for them to be an Easter drop and I had the hatchlings resemble the pygmy phoenix as well, just for kicks. And I toyed with them being a male only species because of the name Cockatrice referring to a Cockerel or male chicken. This idea died out as well and I made the regular hatchling as well as the adult female that went on to be released.
So two plus years later, it was finally decided the Cockatrice would be used. I thought they were just going to be a stream/event release. But I wasn't around for pre-release planning as the real world pulled me away from MS for a while. I had no say in them being a cross breed from the Vernox Dragon and Dismot but I made it clear before I disappeared that I didn't care what happened so long as they were used. I am a little disappointed though, as the Cockatrice doesn't look like a blending of Dismot and Vernox Dragon at all. I think the Vernox Dragon is cool and I like it, just not as a parent species of the Cockatrice. I think if anything the Dismot x Otrovian Amagnae would have been a better choice.
Nitpicking I guess. At least they finally got released though.
