I'm glad that so many people are interested in CiM! I'm looking over your forms now along with my friend who helps me review forms. I should be getting back to everyone within a few days, but if I don't, feel free to poke me.
(Side note: My friend is joining the RP, though I'm keeping their identity anonymous. I draw on their personal experience with child abuse and mental disorders in order to make sure that portrayals of these subjects are sensitive in the RP, as those topics are very serious ones and should be treated with respect. I don't think that they'd be comfortable with people knowing their history, which is why they'll be remaining anonymous.)
Anyways, I figured I should bring up a few things since I've seen recurring stuff in forms and I wanted to address it here instead of PMing a bunch of people.
(I should also mention that this post is definitely not about anyone in particular. All of these things are things that I've seen in at least two to three characters, and if something was specific to one character then I'd PM that RPer.)
Spoiler
- Make sure that your character has a last name!
- I realize that this RP could be loosely categorized as fantasy, but it's technically more sci-fi than fantasy because powers come from genetic mutations. Powers should have some sort of explanation behind how they work that sounds like it could possibly happen if you squint. (Ex: extra cell organelle that creates and manipulates electric charges, etc.) The reason I'm asking for an explanation is because it helps better define what your characters can do with their abilities.
- Try to give your character reasons for stuff. This adds to personality, but it also shows why stuff in their histories played out the way it did.
- When describing powers, make sure that other characters could potentially defend against an attack from your character.
- If your character lived on the streets, please make sure that they were able to provide for themselves and not starve to death. Starvation is bad, we don't like starvation.
- If you're playing an abuse survivor, please make sure that you research the symptoms of abuse and how abuse can affect people's mindset. I tend to be pretty anal about this because one of my best friends is an abuse survivor, so I've seen what it does to people. So... yeah. Please try to make sure that your portrayals are sensitive.
- I know that the weakness section in the form is required, but please try to avoid having weaknesses that are only personality-based unless they directly affect how your character operates in the field. Basically, if you can explain how your at least 1-2 of your character's weakness will harm them in non-social situations, then we'll be good.
Also, if anyone has any questions or concerns about anything, feel free to PM me! I enjoy chatting/plotting/making nefarious schemes with people.
By the way, if anyone is interested, I've been poking around on springhole.net. They have all sorts of RP-related stuff and advice on there. But beware, it's like a black hole when it comes to free time.
