Imp Roses
4-8 roses
If you want to impress guests, these 'Imp Roses' are a great way to do so. They are fairly easy to make, also the baking part can be a bit tricky, and you have to know your oven very well. Anyways, I love to bake my version of these roses with sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. Unfortunately this time my toddler ate the last raisins behind my back before I had a chance to use them, so they are missing in the pictures. Also, small walnut pieces are a nice add-in, too, if you like a little crunch. Or glaze the apple slices with your favorite jam before rolling everything up.
Dough (optinal):
1 1/3 cups (190 g) flour
125 g butter, diced
1 egg yolk
½ 60 g powder sugar
1 pinch of salt
Topping:
1-2 sweet red apples
Sugar
Cinnamon
Raisins
0. Mix flour, butter, egg yolk, powder sugar and salt to create a smooth dough. Add a bit of water if necessary. Let cool in the fridge for at least one hour. Note: If you use pre-made cresent dough you can skip this step.
1. Roll out dough. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon, and raisins. Cut into stripes. Depending on their size and your muffin tin you can make between 4 to 8 roses.
2. Slice apples. Microwave with a bit if water or apple juice for about 1-2 minutes until they are soft enough to bend.
3. Lay the apple slices on each strip of dough. Roll up carefully, and set into a lightly greased muffin tin.
4. Now comes the tricky part: Bake in the preheat oven at 390°F/200°C for about 25 minutes, plus/minus 5 minutes depending on your oven. Watch the roses closely, because you want the dough to bake evenly.
5. Let cool a bit. Sprinkle with powder sugar right before serving.

Oh my, these are freakin' gorgeous! I want to try making them, but I'll almost certainly just butcher the presentation
Kestrad has been eaten by life. She'll probably pop back in occasionally.

Re: Imp Roses
Thanks everyone. As I said, these are fairly easy to make. You all can make them, I'm sure. Just don't forget to soften the apple slices a bit in the microwave. (Or in a regular cooking pot on your stove if you don't have a microwave. The baking process is really the trickiest part where you need to know your oven. If you bake the roses to long you burn them, but if you bake them to short some parts of the dough might still a bit gooey which especially can be a problem when you use pre-made dough.
