Lets talk about chocolate!

Post by Nightshade1588 »

Hi I'm a new user here in Magistream(I've actually had my account for a couple years but never really opened it so technically I'm a new user).

Anyways, recently I've been really frustrated about chocolate, I really enjoy dark chocolate but all the chocolate I've had were ether too sweet or too bitter, so I've decided to start a topic discussing chocolate.

Feel free to post anything you would like to say related to chocolate here. Like what type of chocolate you like, your favorite brand, a review on chocolates you've had, what percentage of cocoa you like most, general fun facts, and anything like that.

My favorite chocolate is dark chocolate, it all started last halloween when I found that all the chocolates seemed too sweet, so I decided go go on a hunt to discover my favorite type of chocolate. I don't eat chocolate that often so so far the only chocolates I've tried is the No name brand dark chocolate(40% cocoa) and the Lindt Lindor extra dark chocolate(70% cacao)(is there a difference between cocoa and cacao?). The No name one was a bit too sweet for my liking-it had a slight bitter taste to it but other than that it tasted really sugary. The Lindt Lindor one gave my a really big surprise when I bit into it, it was basically a bar version of the sphere kind-with a harder outer layer and a soft inner core which I wasn't expecting, the outer layer was bitter while the inside was sweet. I plan to try a 60% one next.

I'm a big fan of chocolate, though I must say I don't like dark chocolate all that much because for me, while some don't like very sweet chocolate, and I tend to use dark chocolate myself in things like chili and other things that already have a lot of sugar or sweetness in them. I'm much more a fan of milk chocolate when I'm just having chocolate.

As for white chocolate, I like it, as long as it isn't mixed with rice such as in white chocolate crunch bars or stuff like that because they just don't go well together.

Also, although I'm all for counting it as chocolate, technically speaking, white chocolate isn't chocolate at all. There are 3 ingredients that chocolate has to have to technically be considered honest ot goodness chocolate, and white chocolate only has two of those.

It's chocolate in my book though, even if that isn't technically accurate.

in the 18th century, chocolate was as widely drunk in European society as tea or coffee and hot chocolate was not considered a beverage for only children or just for cold days.

For centuries, chocolate was only available as a beverage until the 1870s when they figured out how to make is solid and stable at room temperature.

I personally am a fan of dark chocolate, especially from the one chocolatier store we have here as they make cute pumpkin heads on a stick. I will admit that anything above 75% cocoa is a bit too dry and powdery for me... I don't think I should need a jug of water after eating a small square of chocolate lol
I do eat other chocolates too... but I tend to find a lot of milk chocolate overly sweet, and white chocolate, which isn't technically counted as chocolate anyway, always has such a waxy feel to me.

Dark chocolates are my favorite. I just really like the bitter + sweet combination, and milk chocolate and white chocolate tend to be too milky and sweet for me. Although! I do like a white chocolate mocha more than a regular mocha.
Best combinations with dark chocolate have to be sea salt and almonds.

Dark chocolate is honestly really good but for when I'm just having chocolate I'd prefer milk chocolate. If I have the choice of mixins though, I LOVE cookies and cream chocolate bars with the white chocolate and those chocolate cereal pellet things

I like milk chocolate because dark chocolate tastes too bitter and white chocolate tastes too waxy.

My favorite kind of chocolate (Hershey's Air Delight) was sadly discontinued but it was sooooooooooo goooooooooooooooood- I'm so shook it's not around anymore D:
