The Tamora Pierce Fans Guild

Post by thekage »

Welcome to the guild dedicated to users who are fans of Tamora Pierce, author of several series of books with heroines. I remember being in a guild for Tammy before I left on hiatus but after a search and such I could not find it. I got permission to re-start one.

Tamora Pierce

Anyone is free to step in, I hope you would all come to love Tammy's works as much as I have. Even if you have never heard of her works, maybe you might like to check them out :3

WHO IS TAMORA PIERCE?
Tamora Pierce is an author of young adult fantasy series. She is best known for her series written to have bold, and at-first young heroines who also grow into adults. She was born on December 13 in Pennsylvanian and now lives in New York with her husband (spouse-creature) with their cats and multiple other pets. Tammy and her husband have also worked on the White Tiger comic series that had launched as a six issue series in November 2006.

Tammy's works are open to all sorts of ideas, some may even considered taboo by others. Sex and violence are present in the books. When the heroines do have pre-marital sex, contraceptions are used (ie magical charms and such).

Hopefully your interest in her and her works have been piqued. For more info about herself or her books, you can check out her Facebook, her Livejournal, or her website

Upcoming Releases: (Taken from the Website with information collected from her Livejournal)

Since you all may want to know what I like, my favorite heroines are split between Beka Cooper (Beka Cooper Trilogy) and Kel (Protector of the Small), as well as Sandry and Daja from the Circle series. My favorite non-heroine characters are Numair and Faithful (known earlier in the Tortall timeline as Pounce).

I am a Tammy Fan!
Name: Wolfsister
Who is your favorite heroine?: I have to choose? I love most of them, but I guess Kel and Daine are at that top of the list. Beka will most likely top the list once her story is done. Oh, and I like Aly...and Daja...and Tris...
Who is your favorite non-heroine character?: Briar and Raoul are definitely favorites, but I have to say Peachblossom. Peachblossom is awesome.

Glad you remade this, the other died quite a while ago. I don't read these books as often anymore, and I think I might stop getting the new ones after Beka's story is finished, but I still love to get them out sometimes.

I wanted to make it hard for others as hard as it was for me

*waves* Hey! Glad to know others are still around :3 I felt very out of place when I came back and realized i couldn't find the old guild.

Peachblossom was definitely a great character. I really liked the contrast in personalities when Hoshi was introduced too.

I'm actually not too interested in most of the upcoming releases. I wasn't as entranced in the story for Street Magic as I was for Cold Steps... and Tris's stories either. The newest book for her seems like a step back from her growth in the series. Or maybe I read things wrong. It feels like her going to Lightbridge just seems like she's throwing what makes herself Tris away.

I don't really follow any of the Circle characters anymore, and I don't remember much of the Circle Opens series or The Will of the Empress. I liked Daja and Tris, in Cold Fire and Shatterglass, but the others not quite as much. Though I do remember Sandry's was fairly interesting, I didn't like it for some reason at the time. And yeah, Tris is too unique to hide herself at Lightsbridge. I guess I can understand the reasoning, but it just doesn't fit her. All I can see happening is her magic going predictably out of control at regular intervals.

I've always been more of a fan of the Tortall books anyway, really. I like that world better, and it draws me in more. I don't think I'm too interested in the specifics of Numair's past, though; he's a great character, but we already know the basics of his life before Daine. That's why I think I'm going to stop reading new ones after Mastiff. All the ones planned after that just aren't quite what I want to read.

And now that I think of it, Peachblossom reminds me a bit of my last dog. Full of personality, stubborn and headstrong, but you can't help but love them. Hoshi does make a nice contrast, I love how they interact (or don't) with each other.

I think the main reason, the biggest driving force, for why I do follow the Circle characters is that sense of nostalgia I have for them because Sandry's book was the first Tamora Pierce book I read. It is actually quite funny because I bought Sandry's Magic Steps (Circle Opens) before I even read anything else from either a Troll Book Club book order or the Scholastic book order. Well that led me to want to read the actual FIRST series so I read Circle of Magic. Then I found the rest of the Circle Opens books... before I read the inside covers and realized she had written more books than the ones I've read so then I finally read Song of the Lioness and... it just went on from there. Librarians near my elementary school, at my elementary school, and at my high school learned who I was (and even loved me /shot) through my love of reading XD. The high school librarian saw me read a Tamora Pierce book every day practically. Or every week when I decided to re-rent stacks of books.

I heard rumors that instead of the Numair book they would've done more story on the girl from Wolfspeaker (Daine's second book in the series). The one who works against her sister? to help Daine and everyone since her family was from the rebellion in the last Alanna book and were trying to poison others in Wolfspeaker. I actually think I would have been more interested in her story since as you mentioned we know most of his story, just not specifics.

I actually really loved the Beka Cooper series so I can't wait for the release of Mastiff.

Yeah, now that I think of it I do remember that they had been planning on doing a book on Mora (I think that was her name). That would have been more interesting I think, but I can't decide if I would have wanted to read it or not.

I kept on with the Circle books because they are very unique. They just didn't hold on to my attention as much, and I wasn't a big fan of some of the details and plot points, though I don't remember specifics. I was a little disappointed with Briar's second book, and Sandry's, though they do grow on me the more I read them. I also didn't like Will of the Empress that much, but I couldn't tell you why. I just remember kind of thinking: 'Really? That was the big climax of all the books so far?'

I started with the first book of Protector of the Small, by the way. My mom got it for me randomly for a birthday or holiday or something. I didn't have any great interest in it at first, but then I finally picked it up and read it after it had been sitting on my desk forever, and after that Tamora Pierce was one of my favorite authors.

I'm a sucker for books. If I won't buy it I'll find some way to read it (friend.. library... stick self in bookstore...). I'd mostly buy it too. There haven't been many books that I regret having, maybe not too interested in them but I'd still read them. I'm that much of a sucker xD;

No matter how much I did like certain things in The Will of the Empress I'd have to agree with you. It felt very anticlimactic with the events that played out. I much prefer most of the Tortall series. Sadly, if I have to be brutally honest, I prefer most of the other quartets more than Song of the Lioness. Protector the Small the most. It might have been Kel's lack of magic.
