You write very well! Too many stories here involve lots of description dump, an overly forced plot, and borderline Mary-Sues, not to mention bad spelling and spacing which makes it impossible to read, while yours is intriguing and well-paced. Please keep updating. I think that here in the tea house, sometimes the best stories get the least attention.
Kestrad has been eaten by life. She'll probably pop back in occasionally.

I like this so far! Though I have no idea why there were zombies in the first chapter. Maybe you'll get around to that eventually when Kate gets her memories back?
