Cats or Dogs?

Well, I'm an animal person. A few years ago, I definitely would have said dog with conviction... However, the neighborhood dogs have sort of ruined most dogs for me. Most are little ankle biters and one of them really did bite my ankle. I have two cats that are indoor only and the neighborhood keeps several outside to wander as they please. I see one of the outdoor cats I try to call them over. I see a dog wandering around and I tell him to go home... So cats it is these days. I'd still like to own a dog some day.

I love the majority of animals though. Aside from my two cats, I also have gerbils, mice, rats, and a corn snake.

cats, all the way. its not that dogs are bad, theyre just noisy. plus the dog i have at home doesnt even like me no matter what i do so whats the point. a cat, however, doesnt care what you do, and will come to you on its own terms. its kinda unpredictable, but i like it :3

I have both cats and dogs and after weighing the pros and cons I'd have to go with cats. Cats don't really have many cons except having to clean their litter, not learning tricks as easy, and being a little less affectionate and harder to take places (dog park, cabin, etc.) But dogs have way more cons on my list. They need to be taken outside at least 2-3 times a day, they bark at cars and people and sounds and wake up my baby nephew or just annoy everyone with the barking, my one dog needs to get regular hair-cuts, they both need their nails clipped, they both need to be bathed. Really, when it comes down to it, dogs are simply more high maintenance than cats. I still like both, but cats really just need to be given food and water and have their litter changed. They still enjoy cuddling and playtime like dogs, so you still get the companionship, just with less work. You can also leave them alone at home longer if you need to run errands or work all day, while a dog would need to be let out.

Cats are more autonomous and require less attention. But if a couple is planning to have a child, then the best "simulator" for handling children is a dog. The dog behaves like a small child always: it can be naughty, wayward, mischievous. Very similar to children.

^^^^ True. I also live with a toddler, tho, so the dogs are a lot like two extra kids who keep waking the third one up from his naps, haha. For someone w/out kids in the house, I can see how dogs would be a better "child replacement" than a cat.

This is such a hard question! I'm glad there's a "both" option because I find it hard to choose one. I currently have one dog (a German Shepherd mix) and a black cat. I adore them both. Cats and dogs each have such unique qualities and experiences living with them that make them special. If I could only have one, it would probably be a dog, but I'm glad I don't have to pick. XD I just love animals in general.
