Utau's are /for the most part/ fanmade vocaloids. UTAU is a free program similar to Vocaloid. Anyone can make their own utau by recording syllables and playing then in UTAU. One of my favorite Utau's is Utaune Nami, and I also like Hoshine Stella. Teto was the first Utau, who originally started as a joke. She was a april fools joke, that most believed was actually going to be a real vocaloid. Her popularity kinda escalated so she was given a real voice bank.
If your interested I could link you to the download, and if you want to make your own Utau, I recommend using Audacity for the recording.

Ah, that makes sense. It'd be so cool if you made an Utau that became an internet sensation, but the process must be pretty hard xD And it's free? I've heard the Vocaloids were really expensive, so that's a definite plus. Ice can has link? :3

Discotheque is such a nice song, as is Rosario + Vampire. It's pretty good with Vocaloid, too. They totally nailed it when they substituted Moka for Luka. xD

Unless you have japanese lang. in your computer, the program will be in symbols. Like "@!%^*@" xD So if you need help figuring out what does what, I'll try and help you to the bet of my ability. For the most part, I hardly know what any of it means either. OxO I plan on download japanese for my computer sometime soon so I can at least try and translate some of it so I know what it means. As for audacity, just google it.

It's actually not so hard, I recommend recording the syllables 2 seconds long. A list of the syllables can be found on the UTAU wiki, but if your lazy I can give you the link.
