2012
What do you think of 2012? Real or fake? This is completely your opinion.
Please, I beg of you to not argue with each others opinions. You may respond to someone saying that you think different but do not say that what they say is wrong.
I personally try not to beleive by thinking about what they said would happen in 2012, but its hard to not beleieve.

Re: 2012
I don't think it is going to happen. If I remember correctly, the Mayan calendar has ended before and the Earth wasn't destroyed. The biggest thing that happened was the Mayan civilization was wiped out from the conquistadors. So personally, I doubt the world would end on December 21, 2012.

I guess but who is to say the world won't end in 2012 for a different reason? The winter has been strangely warm, I vote global warming.Tidesweep wrote:I don't think it is going to happen. Re: 2012
While the globe has been warming, if we look to history, we can see that the Earth has had several climate changes in the past. It warms up, it cools off, it warms back up again. Although some may argue that this time it is different. For me, I think the Earth is naturally warming up again with just a bit more help from us then it has had in the past. The Vikings that were the first Europeans to 'discover' North America (if you don't count the people who had already traveled here from the land bridge) died off because the Earth entered a mini ice age before warming back up again.

Yes, the earth has a warming and cooling cycle, this just happens to be the first time there have been humans on earth(and that we've been able to document it) during once of the cycles so we're noticing it. I highly doubt we're having much of an impact actually. I mean, the earth is very good at fixing/cleaning up our messes given time.Tidesweep wrote:While the globe has been warming, if we look to history, we can see that the Earth has had several climate changes in the past. The whole 'world is ending in 2012' is hooey. The earth isn't truly ending till the sun burns out, in which case the planet will be burned up when the sun expands large enough to engulf every planet up to Mars. And that won't be for another, 5-6 million years. We'll be long gone by then, hell, humans probably won't even be alive then.

Re: 2012
I really doubt the world will end...but even if it does, death is death either way. If it does end there isn't anything we can do about it. Then again death doesn't mean much in my perspective unless it happens to someone else..but if the world ends then we all die so no one to feel sorry for.
Re: 2012
just because the mayan calender ended doesn't mean the world is going to end on that date. our calender ends on the 30th December and we don't panic the worlds going to end on that date that's how I see it anyway.

Re: 2012
I really don't know what to think of this "2012" thing.
There are possibilities for disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons/tornadoes, vulcanic activity, deserts spreading, forest fires, floodings, the sea levels rising or meteorites crashing down on us. I do believe the weather's getting worse and worse over the years, but I only know what the media tells me, seeing as I'm nowhere near those disasters or vulnerable areas.
The most plausible explanation would be a meteorite, seeing as they can be hard to spot in the dark of space, and we can't really devend ourselves against them. So if the world's going to end, that'd be it.
But then theres us humans. Haven't we been a bit more aggressive during the past year then before? With all the riots, new bills passed, protests and such, as well as the current economical crisis.
I believe that it's us humans that's the key, because three things may happen: We start a 3rd world war, we finally calm down and make peace, or things continue as usual.
"The End of the World" shouldn't be seen as all negative, for example, maybe we find the cure for cancer, or we make some other revolutionary discovery that changes the life of thousands on our planet.
So I believe that it should be seen as this: "The End of the World: As We Know It."
Or the Vogons will destroy the planet to make way for a hyper express intergalactic highway, or our 10 million program will end and the mice will have the answer to The question.
Sorry, couldn't help it, I've been stuck on the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
