Butterfly/Moth Drakes | New Pictures Up!
Well, I've had this idea in my head for years.
I've decided to put it up, even if it doesn't get accepted.
I'll get some pictures in as soon as I can scan them, it's being used right now.
BUTTERFLY DRAKE
GENERAL
As you relax in a meadow watching the sky, you might be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of these beautiful creatures dancing in the air. Bright colors swirl through the sky as several butterfly drakes leap into flight. These creatures take joy in riding the wind, and can be as dexterous as any butterfly. Like wyverns, these creatures are attracted to shiny trinkets and pride themselves on their colorful, uniquely shaped wings.
EGG (Darn my light pencil.)
A colorful, webbed wing embraces this shiny egg.
HATCHLING
(Contrast! Mwahaha!)
With an impatient chirrup, a small hatchling shatters its shell. It looks like a wyvern, but its wings seem to be oddly shaped. As it unfurls them, you are amazed at the bright colors they boast. They remind you of both a butterfly’s and dragon’s wings. The tiny youngling bats its wings and manages to lift itself a few feet off of the ground before returning to the earth. You can already tell it will be a beautiful flier.
ADULT
(Yes, I made the head/neck too big...)
Your tiny hatchling has grown up to become brightly patterned butterfly drake. It’s uniquely shaped wings and coloration set it apart from other dragons. Smallest of the dragonkin, the drake only reaches your waist. It enjoys flitting overhead and waltzing on the wind to show off its hues. These creatures, as you have found, are extremely coveted among the women of Synara for their beautiful colors and manageability.
MOTH DRAKE
This was just an idea for a "dark" butterfly drake.
Dark version of a butterfly could be a moth, no?
The differences would be in wing shape, antennae, and color.
These would be more of an earthy tone, with more browns, black, perhaps a bit of red.
I'm not bothering to do a description on these, since they're sort of an extra, optional thing.
RANDOM DETAILS
I meant the body of the butterfly to be a shiny black with white speckles, but anything goes.
Moth should be a dark brown.
I couldn't decide on a specific color scheme for the butterfly wings, but there are several beautiful suggestions.
I've narrowed them down to the two mot colorful and pretty.

Here are some wing design concepts for the butterfly I've been playing around with...
Of course, there's also the classic rainbow, but the Puvia's already taken that.

Re: Butterfly Wyvern | Looking for reviews...
Now with pictures!
I didn't color them because:
a) I fail at coloring.
b) I kinda wanted it to be the spriter's decision, since idk what's hard and what's not to sprite.

the egg is very beautiful and very realistic (( or Magi-stream realistic )) looking. =3
i much rather prefer adult wing concept #1.... but what if you were to take a real butterfly pattern and put it on the butterfly wyvern's wings? how would that look?

I was aiming for that except...Somatomay wrote:the egg is very beautiful and very realistic (( or Magi-stream realistic )) looking. =3

There are so many different butterfly designs...
Requests?
The adult drawing is done except the wings.
Post a pic of a butterfly and I'll see if I can copy the design.

well there are several that may look well, depending on what coloring you choose.

one of these may look nice on the wings. personally, i like the simple blue. *not sure if links will work*

Not much in the way of lineart, but pwettiful.
The last one is nice, but it's not really going for the "bright colors" thing...
Pretty, but in an earthy way.
And the first link doesn't work for me.

I think this would look lovely on your wyvern, but I am not sure if it is too complicated or not.
