Night songs and Wolf songs

[Hopefire]

Hush child. Do not cry. I will sing you a song of my people from days long past. The song came again in the night like always. But it mattered not for it ment the little raven haired girl in the room one door was going to fall asleep soon. The child this lady had taken in when no one else wanted to. The child that she chose after not being able to bare her own. The lady often wondered why the mother or father had left her on the steps of the orphanage at two months of age just old enough to remember a sound or voice. Was it because of the howling wolf head birth mark on her shoulder or her strange eyes? One an emerald green the other a silvery blue. What ever reason the girl was her daughter now and of three years of age.


10 years later

A raven haired girl rushed down the halls and out one of the arches down to the great gates. "Morning" she yelled as she ran past the gate guards. They chuckled knowing her well. "Late again?" They called after her. "You wish I will be early to day." She yelled back continuing to run. Most days she was late but today she had planned to be early and she was for a first time.

When she reached the stream she dropped to her knees to rest pulling a canteen with water out to drink. Now having rested she stood to wait for the Thane. She was smiling and happy.

Half a chime later The Thane reached the stream. She laughed a clear and chiming laugh sounding a bit like the birds at the look of shock on the Thane's face. She bowed to him as was appropriate. "Yes for once I was early teacher."She said still laughing slightly. He smiled. "Indeed you are Raven Song. You have shown us the even the continuous tardy can be early if they want to be." He said simply his eyes smiling. "Well chose your place on this side of the stream. Happy searching." He said smiling before sitting to meditate. She smiled and instinctively agent up the stream and settled in a calm shady clearing to wait and watch and hope.
