Esa Firestrom ran out into the battle as the firey beasts torched a large piece of her friend, Valka's house. She knew she shouldn't be out joining in the fray, but she couldn't bring herself to stay in, even if it was to protect the little life she had just found out she was carrying that day. She ran into the fray, swinging her battle axe with one hand and holding on to her spear in the other. Above her head flew a gronkle, so she swatted at it, sending it crashing into another house. As the battle raged on around her, she found herself facing a new foe. It was a silvery-blue Deadly Nadder, its teeth worn down with age. She fought this foe with the same passion as she did all her battles, and it seemed that she would win easily. Yet, just as she struck the final blow to this wise old foe, it swung it's tail around and a single spine cut into her side. She stood proudly over the fallen creature as what was left of the beasts flew off. Once the last of them where gone and her adrenaline started to fade, she crumpled next to the body of the old Nadder, her side feeling like it was on fire. That was all she remembered before she blacked out.
She awoke in the Gothi's hut at the top of the hill. The old woman looked at her dissaprovingly as her apprentice sat waiting to translate. "You foolish girl." she said. "You knew you were carrying a child, yet you still put both your lives at risk." At this Esa began worrying for her child, knowing the venom from a Nadder could get nasty. The Gothi, seeing this, said, "Not to worry. The child seems to be fine. There shouldn't be any negative side affects from your stupidity. But I want you to stay inside from now on, you hear?" Esa nodded.
Time passed and the incident was nearly forgotten by all. That is until Esa gave birth. Her child didn't come into the world screaming and fighting like most other viking children. She slipped quietly into the world, thin as a twig and a splash of golden blonde hair. Yet she had one startling feature that set her apart from the start. Her beautiful, large sky blue eyes were slitted right down the middle, just like the devils they so hated. The Nadder venom had changed something in her. Made her something more.

Re: Dragonfire (A HTTYD Fanfic WIP)
They called her Skylark, or Sky for short. The small, Nadder like girl grew fast at first. She was learning to toddle around by the age of 6 months. And as she grew older, she changed, little by little. At first, it was just her little cainine teeth growing in fastest and seeming to be extra sharp. Then her nails started to become pointy too. Once she hit the 7 month mark, she seemed to start moving with the semblance of grace not seen in one so young. Yet she barely spoke.
On the day she turned 8 months, Esa found out her best friend Valka, the chief's wife, was with child. She seemed to only be about 3 months along already, the same Esa herself was when she found out about Sky. Sky also seemed to know this, sensing something. The little girl was already somewhat independant, running off with the older children of the village whenever she could or wandering into the woods. At one point, on one of her trips, she found a few small, black objects. She picked them up and brought them back to her mother.
Less than a month later, Valka fell ill. She had had trouble conceiving this child. Her and cheif Stoick had had many failed attempts before this one. The Gothi had told them that if this pregnancy went south, they should give up on an heir of their own and Stoick should try a different woman. Valka was understandably worried about this child. She had lost so many, she didn't want to lose another. Esa took her young daughter to see her friend, hoping to cheer the woman up.
Sky cluched the small black objects tightly in her small fist. Her mommy was bringing her to see Auntie Valka. When they got there, she could tell there was something wrong with her Auntie. The small thumps she could usually hear from her Auntie's tummy were weak and unevenly spaced. She cluched the small objects closer before some instinct told her that the objects she held would help her Auntie. She pulled on her mother's armored skirt. "Momma" she said in a clear, quiet voice. "Momma, Auntie help. Auntie eat. Auntie better. Thump thump come back." she spoke somewhat with her sweet voice, holding the small objects out to her mother.
Esa wasn't too surprised by this, as her child sometimes seemed to know things without being told. Some days she would stare at the sky for hours. Most nights she did this, the dragons attacked. So Esa decided too try what her child suggested. She ground the objects into a powder and added them to Valka's tea. As Valka drank, she could feel the pains in her abdomen dulling and coming to a stop. At first, this worried her. What if the absense of pain ment her child was gone? Then she felt it. That small flutter only she had been able to feel for the last month. The same flutter that had gone missing a couple of days ago. Tears of relief clouded her eyes.

Re: Dragonfire (A HTTYD Fanfic WIP)
Skylark continued to hear the steady thump of the child growing inside Valka. She spent as much time as she could hanging around as Valka's stomach ballooned outward. Her birthday passed while Valka was in her 7th month. But Valka''s child wanted out early. In the 8th month, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III was brought into the world.
He came much like Sky had come a year and a month before, calm and quiet. His eyes were wide open, observing the world from the moment he was born. He appeared to be a normal child, though markedly smaller than the normal viking child. So the midwives left, leaving Valka with her new son. She watched him, admiring his perfect little features and soft little cheeks. She watched him until he grew hungry. Suddenly the pupils of his emerald green eyes slitted up like a cat's and he wailed his discomfort to the world. And so they found that the cheif's son was like the little nadder girl.
Hiccup too developed at a faster pace than most kids. Yet he was weaker than other kids his age. And quieter. He was a thinker. His only real friend was Sky. They were practically inseperable from the moment he was born.

Re: Dragonfire (A HTTYD Fanfic WIP)
(It follows the movie plot from here basically, but with some add ons. And more from Sky's POV. Hehe. Look at me typing as if I had an actual audiance.)
15 years later.
Two small teens were sitting in the cheif's house playing one of the games they had come up with. Suddenly the boy looked up and towards the sky that was barely visable through the window. "Dragons" he says in a hushed tone to the slightly older girl sitting across from him. She climbs to her feet and offeres him a hand. "Then what are we waiting for?" she asks, already opening the door.
She opens the door to a burst of fire. She shuts it quick, not wanting to let the inside of the cheif's house get burned to the ground. She shows no concern for herself or her companion as they run past the flames throughout the village. They duck and weave, yet the boy, Hiccup, still manages to get knocked down by a larger viking. "Morning!" he screams in the small teen's face before running off.
Hiccup looks over to the girl. "Such charming neighbors we have here, right Sky." he states sarcasticly. They start running again, trying to reach their destination withoug being noticed. That plan goes out the window when a large hand grabs Hiccup by the back of his shirt and holds him in the air. "What is he doing out? What are you doing out? Get back inside." the cheif says. He turns to Sky. "Aren't you supposed to be watching him? Why is he out?" he asks her in irritation. She just gives him a blank look. "Because your house is that way," she says, pointing back the way they came, "and the forge is that way." she deadpans, pointing the way they were going.
The cheif sighs and shakes his head before putting the boy back down. Once his feet are on the ground, he takes off. They arrive at the forge laughing. As Hiccup jokes around with his mentor, Sky takes a look at their latest inventions. She laughs to herself, remembering the time the village tried to seperate them and they tried to keep in touch with some hollow yak horns and thread. Everyone kept tripping, so they were finally allowed to talk face to face again. Suddenly Hiccup rushes by her and drags the contraption out. He pats it and it goes off, hitting a viking on the head. Sky starts laughing so hard, she can barely make out Hiccup's defense of calibration issues.
