General Description:
Golemhounds are strange creatures- they are not alive in the sense that you and I are alive. Made completely of stone, through and through, they have no blood vessels, muscles, or bones. Their life force comes entirely from the one big red gemstone set in their chest. They grow by collecting stone around this gemstone - kind of like how a snowball grows by collecting snow. A Golemhound will be made of different kinds of stone depending on where it comes from. As such, Golemhounds never stop growing. However, the older they get, the slower they grow and the less they move. It is believed that some of the smaller mountains in the Alasre Mountain range are actually just massive sleeping Golemhounds. These creatures also never die, though they can be rendered lifeless by separating their life stone from the surrounding rock. But once this life stone comes back into contact with the earth, it is "reanimated" and it starts its life over as a young Golemhound.
Golemhounds are generally easy-going creatures. They are extremely loyal and easy to train. Fiercely protective, they are often used as by magi as guardians. Since they are made of stone, golemhounds do not have the same urges as living creatures. They can sit in front of a door silent and still as a statue for days, weeks, months, even years on end without having to eat, sleep, or even move. The only sign of life that gives away a golemhound is the rustling of its leaves when there is no wind.
Egg Description
This gemstone is sitting on a pile of pebbles... the pile seems to grow every time you turn your back.
Hatchling Description
The pile of pebbles around your gemstone has formed around it into the rough shape of a little puppy. Your golemhound loves to play in the rocks in the riverbed and it seems to grow bigger every time it comes back from one of these romps. It has also begun to grow little maple leaves around it's ears, tail, belly, and neck.
Adult Description
Your little golemhound puppy has grown into a massive adult. It is now as tall as a direwolf, but five times heavier. When you call, the giant creature comes running and it's paw steps seem to shake the earth. You like to bring your golemhound with you on your long, leisurely travels because it never tires. But for matters of speed, your golemhound does not quite rise to the challenge. When you're not around, your golemhound likes to simply sit at your door, silent and still as a statue.
