To show you my love, I bought you a bear
Yes, the one that I gave to that child over there
It just seemed so sad, and you don’t need toys
I’m sure that this child will receive far more joy
To show you my love, I got you some sweets
But thought I - you needn’t have them to eat
I feared they’d enhance your waistline, my love
And your trousers fit like an overstuffed glove
To show you my love, I got you some flowers
Sadly, by that rose imp they were devoured
But flowers are fleeting; they very soon die
And to give dying buds – why be that guy?
To show you my love, I wrote you a card
Though I admit, I hired a bard
He wrote of the buxom lass who lives down the street
When I said that your face was like pounded meat
To show you my love I wrote you this poem
And once you have heard it I hope that it’s known
My love is like a soaring balloon
Free as a bird, then popped, far too soon
