D&D party time

Post by MothballMilkshake »

I am not sure how many of you on here play D&D or Pathfinder, but I'd be interested to find out. Do you play it online, or in person? If you play it online, what programs do you use? If you've tried both, which do you think is easier? What version are you playing, and what do you think is best? Be it Pathfinder, 3, 4, 5.1, or any other, and why?

Personally I'm currently playing a Pathfinder campaign (which is somewhat like D&D rules between 3 and 4), online, because most of the group lives in other countries. We use Gamtable to run the game, which can be a bit buggy and laggy at times, but gets the job done in terms of player position and die rolling.
I'm playing a catfolk rogue right now, and our party has ended up in the employ of an undead god-king bent on taking over the world - but he's not going to be as racist to catfolk as people currently are, so my character is cool with it.

Do you get emotionally invested into your characters? Which do you have more fun with, the RP or the fighting? Do you prefer a good balance of both?

Share funny stories of your party and situations - a great blog for this is http://dndoutofcontext.tumblr.com/ , Very funny.

I don't know if it's okay to post on something this old, but it was only on the second page, so... *ehem*

I actually adore Pathfinder! I've been playing it since last year and recently took up being a GM. I've launched my first campaign with my friends and so far I've done three sessions. I've been working really hard on it; I've even statted my own unique monsters, races, and even deities.

When it comes to PCs, I only have two. One for my boyfriend's campaign and one for my own. I'd be happy to talk a little bit about them:

My first PC is Vex, a Strix ranger with an owl companion that he never uses. He dual-wields swords like a badass and has a few fun space-time powers after becoming the owner of a mysterious black pocket watch.

My second is Katerina (or just Kat), a Kitsune gunslinger. She's one of the nicest people in my campaign setting, and while she has yet to make a name for herself (only level 3 at the moment, lol), she has quite a bit of promise. Even if I'm planning to completely torture her and drag her through hell later. *cough*

So, yeah. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and stories with everyone who posts here!

Gunslinger seems like a cool class, but I went rogue first. Gunslinger is the one with panache abilities, yes?

More or less. They get something called 'grit' that they can use to do some cool stuff in combat or otherwise. Of course, the campaign hasn't really picked up enough yet for Kat to be using it on a regular basis, but I intend for that to change soon.

I also really enjoy the rogue class. Rogue is what I usually go for when I roleplay, else some other stealthy kind of class. But this being Pathfinder, I thought it'd be better to mix it up a little bit. I have another campaign idea in the works where I'll be playing as a barbarian.

One of my friends really wants to play as a paladin, because it just seems like the easiest class to annoy all your friends with : P

If everyone likes to play evil or chaotic aligned characters, I can guarantee you it will. But it can also be a bit of a headache for the paladin, too. The party in my boyfriend's campaign has one paladin, and she's the only Lawful Good in a sea of Chaotic Good/Neutral. Poor thing tears her hair out just trying to keep track of one of our more troublesome characters. Both in and out of character!

Ahah. That sounds hilarious. Our party started with mostly chaotic/neutral good/neutral aligned characters, one neutral evil

...

And now we're working for a lich and two of the previously humanoid members are Drider.

It's like that gif with the guy bringing pizza and everything is on fire

Oh, wow. That sounds like a lot of fun. Disastrous, but entertaining! How did it all go wrong (or right) if you don't mind me asking?

A strange series of events, in which two members decided that hey, maybe this crazy murderous spider lady has a point, and they let her make them into driders. Then we managed to desecrate a tomb which awakened a lich, and I, being the reasonable person I am, said 'hey guys, how about we try talking to him instead of running away?'
He mentioned the guy who was pretty much trying to enslave us, and seemed pretty angry about it, so we went off and continued doing things that the slave man didn't like, but the lich did. He promised that in the time of the old elves, my character's race was treated second only to kings, he promised the human character that she would lead an army, and he promised the two drider that he would free them (Since drider have to obey dark elves)
Now he has his skin back and isn't a creepy skeleton, so he's a lot easier to work with

Probably easier to look at, too. Speaking of liches, there is a character in my party who became one not too long ago. Similar to my character's black pocket watch, he had a silver pocket watch that slowly turned him into an undead abomination. It's even worse because he's a Grippli, so we have to deal with visualizing a rotten frog that walks around on two legs whenever he ditches his alter self disguise.
