Chapter 1: Fresh Out
I woke up and immediately looked at my diploma on the wall. I began to read it;
"This is to certify that Dominic Gamble has completed in a satisfactory manner at the approved program of study in accordance with guidelines established by the Maryland State Board of Education and is therefore awarded this Diploma."
"Damn, I finally graduated from high school." I said to myself. 18 years old, and a black man ready to go into the world. But the truth is, it ain't much of anything out in Baltimore besides guns, fights, and bitches. But its where I live, so I rep my city. I got out the bed and started my morning grind.
Go brush my teeth, take a shower, the usual shit. Mama was asleep, and my sister Diamond was up early doing her hair. After I got out the shower, I put on my true religion jeans and a tanktop. I grabbed the hair pick and started getting my small afro right. I threw on my Jordan Super Fly 4's and walked into the living room.
"Boy, fuck you think you cute?" my sister said with her mocking ass. I just grinned and gave her a little giggle. I loved that little girl like crazy. I went in and tickled her since she wanna be mean. Her smile was beautiful, and her laugh made me happy. After the action settled, we started talking.
"Where Orlando dumbass at?" I asked her.
"You know that nigga outside with Tre and them, he down the block." she said.
"Oh alright, I'm ready go down there and chill with the squad." I told her.
"Well i'll tell ma when she wake up. Imma chill in the house today, probably talk on the phone with my best friend."
I nodded at her, and headed out the house. Orlando was my brother, he a year older than me but he a ride or die. A true nigga I can count on through anything. Couldn't really focus on my bro while walking down Belair Road. You can get beat, robbed, or killed anywhere in this clown ass city. Run down homes on both sides of the street, Always watching my back for some nigga looking to murk me for some weed or some shit. Anyway, I got to Tre house and saw them niggas chilling on the porch. They was bumpin Young Moose like always, and they straight smelled like loud.
"Yoo Dominic, fuck it is dummy." Tre said while dappin me up.
"What up Tre, fuck yall up to?"I asked him while dappin up Orlando, Michael, and Reshard.
"Shit, we just chillin out here. But we tryna go to your sister little performance jiffy tonight." Tre said.
I knew Tre as long as I knew Orlando. We all buddies from elementary school. He don't really look like it with his stereotypical cruddy temp that Baltimore niggas rock, but he a "businessman" so to speak. Got plugs and connections all over Maryland. But he stupid as shit. You always gotta watch this nigga before he get himself and you killed! I run this lor clique for a reason, and thats because of my street cred, smarts, and my strength. Only two of which he got.
"Yeah dummy your sister phat as a bitch!" Reshard said.
"Shard shut yo bitch ass up about my sister 'fore I smack yo dumbass." I told that nigga quick!
I don't play about my sister one bit. I love my family more than anything, thats all you can trust. I saw Orlando looking at Shard funny, probably thinking bout poppin yo just like me. But Reshard another friend of ours. He been cool with Michael since elementary, but we met the two of them in high school. They cool forreal, and I suppose I trust them. Michael the lightskin pretty boy in our group, rocking earrings and a auburn hightop. Reshard on the chubby side with cruddy temp, but he a great fighter. Better than me? Fuck no, I ain't take boxing for nothing, but yeah he good to have on your side.
"Chill dummy, I was fuckin with you. Always on some angry shit." Reshard said.
"Yall niggas always trippin like a motherfucker, but yeah yo we going be down their tonight." Michael said.
"Alright, but what we ready do to pass the time?" I asked him.
"You already know what the deal is bro" Orlando said, pulling out five blunts. So to sum things up, we got high as shit, talking bout politics, all the bitches we fucked, rocket science, normal high nigga conversation.
Before we knew it, it was 7:35. The high wore off, and we was about to leave out. We sprayed ourselves down with febreeze and got out of there.
My sister was a real talented singer, and she was beautiful. Diamond Gamble was a household name over Baltimore for her singing. She even had a local hit, "Bestie for Life" that did well. She getting real popular, and now she got a show down the Paradox club. But tonight, this wasn't just gonna be another day in the hood. It would be the start of an alliance. An empire. A family.
To be continued...
