General Description:
Spoiler
These small companions are handily pocket-sized, though you'll almost never find one patient enough to be in one. Instead, they prefer whizzing anywhere and everywhere at high speeds. Fiercely competitive when it comes to running, it's not uncommon to see what looks like a ball of fire running across a wall or over rooftops, but on closer inspection its is more than twenty of these creatures, racing each other to see who is fastest. Males are a more vibrant red than the females, and are the ones most responsible for the impromptu races. A special potion made from their feathers will grant a magi extraordinary speed, but does not grant enhanced perception to deal with going at those speeds and more than one Magi has broken a leg by running themselves off a cliff or into a wall due to this drawback.
Spoiler
This softly feathered egg has a tail coming from it that is constantly twitching
Spoiler
Enormously energetic and prone to running in circles around their Magi when bored, these hatchlings need constant supervision to make sure they haven't injured themselves or others because they didn't pay attention to where they were going.
Spoiler
Rarely growing larger than a double handspan, this little companion no longer needs to be surpervised every waking moment. Having learned to be careful others, this pet now runs along walls and other high places during the day. It will generally fend for itself when it comes to food, eating smalls insects, twigs, eggs, flowers, and bits of coal with equal aplomb. With some coaching they can be taught to deliver messages, though these sometimes go astray if the pet in question gets caught up in another Burning Candle race, or starts one of its own.
