Your egg has hatched into a most unusual animal. It appears to be part fox, part hound, and part bird of prey. Unlike its adult disposition, your new enfield companion craves near-constant attention, and is just about always underfoot. It's advised to watch your step when caring for young enfields. Enfields can easily trip up an inattentive human, despite their swiftness.
ADULT
Not much bigger than an alphyn or a kitsune, the enfield has what appears to be the head of a fox, the body of a greyhound, and the fierce talons of an eagle on its forelegs. Soft, plush fur and a long, swishy, brushy tail completes the look. Enfields vary widely in colour, depending on what its parents' hues were, but regardless of colour, all enfields share the same build. It was this appearance that lead a few people to believe that the enfield might have started as a mad magi's magical mishap.
GENERAL
Cunning like a kitsune and swift like an alphyn, enfields are a peculiar blend of both parents, and a rare sight to find in the wilds. For a long time, no one knew where enfields came from, as no nest or egg had ever been found, though enfields can be found in just about any clime a kitsune or an alphyn finds tolerable. Many theories surrounded the enfield, including the belief that the enfield was some kind of spirit or creature that could cross dimensions at will, using these alternate realms to hide its eggs in. Only when an enfield egg was finally discovered one day in a forest, being guarded by its parents - an alphyn and a kitsune - that the mystery of the enfield's origins were finally unveiled. Unlike alphyns, enfields tend to be loners as adults, only gathering together and then pairing off to mate during the breeding season, though occasionally one can find a pair travelling together at other times of the year - almost always a mated pair. This tendency extends to an enfield's magi, and if a magi wants to find their companion, it's best to wait until the enfield wants to socialise. Despite the enfield's size, it rarely deals with predators. Enfields can fit into any space their heads can get through, but if an escape route is not available, it will use its speed and its claws to defend itself.
